Today, I officially resigned from the church I pastored for almost 19 years. After 37 years of pastoral ministry, I leave my assignment and ministry altogether. It's a surreal day.
The emphasis in earliest Christianity evangelism was on proclaiming the gospel rather than on persuading people of it. Those who did not listen were consigned to an impending real-world judgment by which their authority would be taken away and given to others.

@markchironna The Johannine Lamb is both salvific (John 1:29) and war-like (Revelation 5:6). Both function rhetorically as metaphors for Christ's work in salvation and his empowering faithful witnesses.
The slaughtered/slain Lamb provides an image of eschatological hope.

@ZachWLambert Both sides of the "political theology" discussion utilize labels and generalizations too often. As an academic who shares time in both worlds, I find such declarations unhelpful and counter-productive.
@markchironna Dreams and symbolism would be an interesting study, especially within the diverse genres of the Bible. In apocalyptic literature, symbols (metaphors) share rhetorical significance. The author tells and shows the interpreting audience an alternate reality on a heavenly canvas.
