📚 Five standout books I read this year—and why they stuck with me.
These weren’t just enjoyable reads. Each one sharpened how I think about decision-making, human behavior, risk, and the world we’re collectively building. 1/6 👇
@MarceloLima We thought the Q was solid (disclosure: long). Q2 margin guide a little light, but agree with you @MarceloLima - $ADBE being priced like they are doomed. CEO transition a little clumsy, but the aftermarket reaction has us scratching our heads.
Truly appreciate you passing along my essay, Matthew @9others . 🙏 Munger and Buffett’s study of the "eminent dead"—the Stoics included—was their blueprint for a life well-lived. It is a sobering reminder that while many chase extreme wealth, few manage to avoid the misery that often comes with it.
@FirstHillcap I would like to see them take price again. Their costs have skyrocketed, so justified IMO. Not sure about their new revenue opportunities. What gives you confidence it will come? I have no strong view either way.
I enjoyed our discussion @andreevdan18 and look forward to watching your rise in this industry. You have a passion for investing that will serve you well over your career.
Excited to share a special episode with a legendary investor from North of the 49th Parallel:

! 🇨🇦 I’ll admit, I stumbled and lost my train of thought a few times, but Michael’s wisdom & experience truly carried the day. https://t.co/9ka8loyz5C
Warren Buffett retires today, most likely in his mind at the closing bell, just minutes from now.
Congratulations to the greatest investor the world will ever know. The returns speak for themselves - Berkshire earned 6,118,651% or 19.9% annually over his 60 years running the company. The S&P 500 returned 46,491%, or 10.4%. Berkshire’s shares could decline by 99.2% and still have outperformed the market. The record is even greater when including the partnerships he ran through 1969.
However, it is not the returns but the way Warren did it that matters most; with integrity and morality - and with humility and humor. He didn’t have to teach, but he did. On behalf of so many of us, thank you, sir.
@shaneparrish@farnamstreet@davidmcraney@EViesturs@a_greenberg If you’re looking for books that upgrade your mental models rather than just your bookshelf, these are worth your time.

5) Sandworm — Andy Greenberg
Part thriller, part warning. A chilling look at state-sponsored cyber warfare and attacks that cross from digital into physical infrastructure. The takeaway: we’re living through a shift in warfare as consequential as the dawn of the nuclear age—just less visible.
A short book with long-term returns.
This one blends Stoicism, Munger-style thinking, science, and business into timeless mental models.

A multibillionaire living in SoCal with no air conditioning. "He sipped water like it was poison". "To the day he died, that mind was running... He never stopped learning". Hard to believe it's been two years since your passing, Charlie. Boy, do I miss you.

James Stockdale survived 8 years as a POW in Vietnam by realizing one truth: We don't control our station in life, only how we respond.
If you want to build unshakeable mental toughness, this book is a great introduction to Stoic philosophy.

Q: Ever wonder where Buffett and Munger gained their wisdom for living well? A: Ancient Stoic philosophy
Their true genius wasn’t just in investing — it was also in applying timeless Stoic principles to modern life.
I explore this in my latest essay: The Stoic Investor, including links to dive deeper. https://t.co/sRMRhS1ocZ
