As we close the chapter on 2025, we do not merely look back at a calendar year; we look back at a year defined by the systemic erosion of our fundamental rights. It has been a year where the mask of democracy was finally traded for the iron fist of a military junta.

The past twelve months have seen the regime descend into blatant lawlessness. We have witnessed the normalization of state abductions, Mr. Museveni’s own admission that activists are "put in the fridge" confirms that state-sponsored disappearance is now official policy.

The UPDF has abandoned its constitutional mandate. With the CDF issuing threats of torture and death, and army officers openly campaigning for the regime, the line between the national security forces and a partisan militia has vanished.

Our leaders, Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid, continue to face a captured judiciary. The recent actions of Judge Emmanuel Baguma forcing pleas in total disregard of due process show that the courts have become tools of oppression rather than temples of justice.

The abduction of Dr. Sarah Bireete is a calculated strike against election transparency. By targeting civil society leaders, the regime seeks to ensure there are no witnesses to the electoral fraud they are preparing for.

The Electoral Commission has already shown its hand through the unjust disqualification of candidates and the weaponization of the National Flag. While they criminalize citizens for their patriotism, they remain silent as security operatives openly engage in partisan violence.

We enter 2026 with glaring certainty that the upcoming elections are being framed by the regime not as a democratic exercise, but as a theatre of warfare.

We cannot "wish" our way into a better country. The "fundamental madness" currently governing our nation must be met with a fundamental resolve from the people. We call upon every Ugandan at home and in the diaspora to rise up. We must refuse to be silenced, refuse to be bought, and refuse to be intimidated by the threats of a dying regime.

The year ahead will be tough, but the spirit of a people determined to be free can never be broken.

​We wish the people of Uganda a year of courage, resilience, and ultimate liberation.

National Flag controversy:
1. Section 4 of the Act states that usage in trade, business, calling or profession requires authorization by a minister. This does not apply to Elections and campaigns which are national functions.

Yesterday, Dr. Besigye and his colleague Hajj Obeid Lutale's fourth bail application was denied! Cry beloved country. The judiciary, like all other institutions, has been completely emasculated.
