As an AD, I often hear people say, “Winning is not important.”
I disagree.
Winning is important, but the journey required to become a winner is even more important.
The goal is to maximize an athlete’s talent through adversity while teaching resilience, discipline, and accountability.
Losing should hurt, because standards matter. But every loss should become one step closer to winning.
If we tell athletes winning is not important, we are not preparing them for life.
The pursuit of winning teaches lessons that last far beyond the scoreboard.
Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future. Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal.
Before the war, the strait was open, Iran was being crushed by sanctions, and 13 service members were still alive. Now, 13 Americans are dead, families have paid billions at the pump, sanctions will be lifted, and the bombing has stopped. This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.
Mike Balow was on WJR yesterday and I've never heard someone more out of touch with reality. He repeatedly claimed the Board is doing well and doesn't try to micromanage the President or AD. 🤪
His advice to Spartans was to "take a deep breath." 🤡
GTFO of my school, Mike.
XC parents: your role this summer is simple but important.
Help make sure your athlete gets to practice, completes their on-your-own runs, and that running remains a priority even during vacations. Let’s be honest: most runs take less than an hour and can usually be done before the rest of the family is even ready for the day.
If you’re vacationing somewhere that isn’t safe to run outside… where exactly are you vacationing? 😄
Beyond running, parents can make a huge difference by helping athletes: • train in relatively new running shoes • eat mostly home-cooked meals and have a good stock of snacks • maintain a normal sleep schedule • actually hear that alarm in the morning
Summer isn’t a break from responsibilities. In many ways, teenagers need more structure and support during the summer than they do during the school year.
A successful fall season is built during the summer.
“Batt's replacement would be the fourth MSU athletic director since Bill Beekman's tenure ended in 2021. Counting a two-year interim stint from 2022 to 2024, Guskiewicz's replacement would be the school's fourth president since 2022.”
The darkness continues.
Well does this mean stadium upgrades aren’t going to happen. Honestly it’s all over… if we don’t win a natty in basketball this upcoming season we are pretty much done for in everything. Life fn sucks
A sideways move but prob for more money and a board who wants him. Good deal for him.
Now we get to listen to our board talk about itself with no president or AD. Why will any top notch persons come to MSU when the same situation greets them. Ugh.
President Guskiewicz makes Michigan State a better place. He embodies what it means to be a Spartan by focusing on the common good, daring to be brave, and never backing down. During a time we needed it most, Michigan State found a leader worthy of the moment
Teaching is about teaching kids WHO DON'T WANT TO BE THERE. That's the job. It's about developing skills in young people who would, by nature and culture, rather be doing something else.
If your excuse for poor teaching is some version of, "The kids don't want to learn," then you are confused about the nature of your job.
Your child's school has an assistant superintendent for curriculum, an assistant superintendent for instruction, a director of teaching and learning, and a coordinator of academic services. Your child's teacher has thirty-two kids and no copy paper. This is not a funding problem. It is a priority problem.
Your fastest XC freshman is your most fragile athlete.
Not the slow kid. Not the one walking after mile one.
The fast one.
Their engine adapts in three weeks.
Their skeleton takes four months.
So the better they feel, the harder they push, and the further out ahead of their own bodies they get.
The kid who looks most ready in August is the one I watch closest in October.
Do y’all feel it? Middle schoolers are speaking out against iReady. Teachers and parents want Chromebooks out of elementary classrooms. College students are booing AI. Human connection is making a comeback.
Thank you for submitting your teaching 'wish-lists' for next year. Though I value your input, only Sycophantic Teacher and Sycophantic Department Chair will receive their request for advanced classes with low numbers. For the rest of you, well, good luck!
Way too many parents talking about retaining their 8th grade boys for a school sports advantage. I’ve got news for you. If you are thinking you need to do that, then your child is not that good and you are not considering the pressure you’re putting on them. You’re doing this for YOU, not your child. Grow up. You didn’t make it to the big leagues and they likely won’t either. 🤦♀️
I might be old school, but the best way to attract a new President is too not through the old one under a bus. Maybe I'm asking too much from this group of Trustees.
