Kick men out of women’s spaces? Yes
Stop chemically castrating children? Yes
Be able to refer to people’s sex, regardless of how they “identify”? Yes
One of these issues is a bit more nuanced though…
@LundukeJournal Not that I'm defending this loli stuff. I don't buy the art/free speech angle, personally.
The people who wrote that smear article are properly unhinged though.
@LundukeJournal I'm inclined to give Brodie some leeway. It appears as if this stuff was fine when he was a teenager, immersed in 4chan culture of the era, where this stuff would have been normal.
He's moved on, and the worst they can say about him now is he's talked to you, like that's bad
💥We’ve been granted permission to take a judicial review on Hampstead Ponds!
We were initially turned down for judicial review after the City Corporation tried to get away without having to defend the lawfulness of its policy.
Now the Court of Appeal has overturned that judgment, recognising that “expert charities” such as Sex Matters have standing to bring claims for judicial review and called the City of London’s arguments in defence of its “trans inclusive” policy “brief and unpersuasive”.
We have increased our target to enable the next stage in this case. Thank you to everyone who donated to get us this far.

@QcWynter Those things are awful. Unless you have the softest water in the world, they'll gunk up and fail within a couple of years and need replacing.
@dhh Ooh, I wonder if this one fixes the built in keyboard on a MacBook 12" (2017). Previous Omarchies have installed ok, but then gotten stuck on the password entry screen as the key board doesn't work.
If you believe free speech is for you but not your political opponents, you're illiberal.
If no contrary evidence could change your beliefs, you're a fundamentalist.
If you believe the state should punish those with contrary views, you're a totalitarian.
If you believe political opponents should be punished with violence or death, you're a terrorist.
It’s so utterly regressive.
What a way to reinforce dated sexist stereotypes and make kids feel like there’s something wrong with their “gender” if they don’t fit.
The gender ideology lessons that Seattle Public Schools mandate all children starting from kindergarten be indoctrinated with are cartoonishly over-the-top. Like a 90s Republican scare campaign about the slippery slope brought to life. Crazy. https://t.co/HRgKDc69i3
@hal_wayland@dhh Within the context of a project like NixOS, yes.
I might then go and vote in different ways to my fellow contributors. And that’s fine. If we cross paths in the context of a political debate elsewhere then maybe we can have that debate.
But it’s nothing to do with the OS.
@hal_wayland@dhh But that shouldn’t be the bar. Women shouldn’t have to prove that in order to retain their hard won rights to single sex spaces and sporting competitions. For the sake of dignity, privacy, and safety, is men should stay the hell out.
@hal_wayland@dhh “Being a trans woman” isn’t a sufficiently well defined concept to say anything about: they’re simply men who say they’re women.
Does saying you’re a woman change your behaviour in a way that makes you safer to be around in a female only single sex space?
Unlikely
@hal_wayland@dhh But doesn’t this conversation actually prove the original point. There’s no need for some software project to take either side on this issue. It’s just divisive and causes arguments. It causes people to feel alienated and want nothing to do with the project.
Focus on the code.
@hal_wayland@dhh What, about male violence? Is that really in dispute? Just look at how many men get locked up vs women. And how many of those crimes are violent vs non-violent.
Or whether claiming to be “trans” changes that male behaviour? It would seem not, no.

@Poppy_yyyyyyyy I have no personal experience of these schools, but I’m aware of much criticism from people whose views I generally respect. E.g. This from @lecanardnoir

I had a cheek swab sex test in 1976. It took 10 seconds. It was not intrusive or uncomfortable compared to mandatory drug testing, a mammogram, a monthly period or a cervical smear. Anyone who uses that as an excuse is doing exactly that… lining up ridiculous excuses
