"The colonization project has replaced Scottish identity with English identity, and it has done that successfully. And now there is no other identity.

"And that was done in every colony all around the world, every single colony that has been part of colonization. Again, come back to Doun-Hauden, where Alf [Baird] sets out very clearly. But what happens to those nations is that there is a deep psychological wound inflicted on the people. And in every single one, you find the same thing.

"You find poverty, because their resources are being plundered, of course, and there's no real opportunity. But you also find a kind of depression, mass depression. You find high levels of alcoholism, high levels of drug abuse, high levels of mental illness and depression.

"And that has characterized colonies all over the world. You look at Ireland prior to independence, and the same problems, and you see them in Scotland.

"That is a national psychic wound, that happens if you allow, if you take on the idea that this is now your identity, and you've now lost yours, you don't know who you are anymore.

"And that's why it's so important for the whole independence movement to understand that reclaiming our identity, restoring what makes us Scottish, not English, not anybody else, not better, just Scottish, is absolutely essential.

"If we are ever going to get our self-determination, we have to know who we are, we have to shake off the gaslighting, and you know, that's why part of what we do, when we restore this knowledge of Scotland's constitution, what sovereignty means, where it comes from, what these provisions are, you remind people. That's why I feel like that. That's why I feel like I'd reject this horrible class system.

"And I think everybody's entitled to be fed, and to be clothed, and to have a safe home, and to have equal right to justice. That's part of the Scottish... of Scottish values, that we've put into our constitution over centuries.
