You didn't mention what he thought of the Ottomans who controlled Jerusalem at the time. He thought it was "not pleasant" that they controlled it but was something they had to put up with due to the historical realities at the time. But he wanted it to be controlled by Christians, though he had little time for Protestants either, seeing them as corrupters of the faith. His extremely conservative views and rejection of ecumenism would be anathema to modern Popes.

They are some of the dumbest people on the planet yet are so sure in everything they have made up. 100 years ago it was British Mandate. 1949 to 1967 Gaza was controlled by Egypt and what they call the West Bank got its name because it was annexed by Jordan and was to differentiate it from the East Bank of the Jordan river. And that's just dealing with the 100 year nonsense spouted. As for the trans stuff, I really wish every single member of Queers For Palestine were given a free trip to hold a pride parade in Ramallah or Rafah. It could be sponsored by the Darwin Awards. The books inside were taken by students of Deutsche Studentenschaft and burned away from the building in Opernplatz along with books by other Jewish authors such as Freud and Einstein. The building however was repurposed by the Nazis, not destroyed by them. It was destroyed during allied bombing raids towards the end of the war. Trans were treated differently. It doesn't unite those of us who were around in the 80s when it was thrown around as a slur as we were bullied and attacked. We got through it and came out stronger for it, only to have rights organisations hungry for funds allow cuckoos into the nest who have nothing to do with being LGB. They takeover our spaces and organisations, rewrite our history (looking at anyone who believes the nonsense written about Malcolm "Marsha" Michaels in the past decade, completely erasing Stormé DeLarverie, a lesbian), badly damage the work that was done to win our equal rights and to top it all use a deeply offensive slur to describe us. Let the TQ+++ whatever they are go fight their own battles, they weren't around when we were fighting and if they want to call themselves slurs that's on them but don't involve us.

The strange thing is that in 1948 most Irish, except for the civil service types who were little changed after Irish Independence from those running the country when under British control, saw the Israelis as very similar to us for gaining their Independence from British control, often using tactics honed by the likes of Collins. Unfortunately, the creation of the modern day Palestinian narrative in 1964 with the help of the KGB and its push through universities, media, political parties and unions has caused a flip. Now most Irish, who weren't around at the time to know the view back then, are inundated with completely unchecked pro Palestinian narratives, zero fact checking of Hamas/UNWRA press releases, platforming of vile antisemites such as Albanese regularly on RTE despite numerous countries, many very sympathetic to Palestinians, calling her out as such. And many Irish are too lazy to actually look at the facts or the history or too afraid to stand up to the false narratives and risk leftist cancel culture. I've shown friends the videos that come out daily from Gaza by Gazans themselves of markets full of fresh food, cafe and mall openings, dance concerts, beaches full of families, lavish weddings, the Hamas executions and punishment beatings of Gazan civilians and it's either shock or disbelief. They can't understand how it's totally different to the stories they are fed everyday in Irish media.

Black September they tried to overthrow the Jordanian government, massacred Christians in Lebanon, backed Saddam against their hosts in Kuwait. Egypt controlled Gaza from 1948 to 1967, hence the massive border structure now between Gaza and Egypt to keep them out and the attacks by Egyptian police and civilians on the useful idiot westerners who attempted to go there by land. They all know what they are like. Al Thani and Erdogan are happy to host their billionaire terror leaders, they should take them. But they are smart enough to know a few leaders is one thing, taking in large numbers of them is a very different, very destabilising proposition.
