If the Hula Bowl gets off of the ground in 2026, I will be very surprised.

I’ve had numerous “tips” and recommendations to look into different aspects of the event and what has been happening behind the scenes. Here is what I found.

Note: because of the legal status of the situation, all of this is “ALLEGED.”

The Hula Bowl lost their TV contract this year, which is what brought my initial investigation into the event together. The contract appears to have been lost last minute - even schools thought they were airing on CBS Sports the morning of the game, when several schools posted graphics featuring their students participating in the game with CBS Sports plastered on it.

However, when people turned on CBS Sports at kickoff, they found the Army/Navy rerun playing from last month.

The Hula Bowl was supposed to cover broadcast costs to the game as part of the arrangement. When CBS Sports did not receive the funds, they pulled out of the event, and the Hula Bowl scrambled together a team to film the event behind the scenes, quietly and without anyone knowing.

The result was a shoddy viewing for the limited audience that were able to tune in.

Many people thought a rerun of the Hula Bowl would air at 3:30 AM the following Monday, however that was corrected the day of in the broadcast schedule to reflect another Army/Navy rerun.

The Hula Bowl owner, Jennifer Logan (who also served as the games VP of Marketing) has a habit of leaving people unpaid.

The Hula Bowl hired UCF students to create many of the graphics and run their social media accounts. Those people remained unpaid for their work.

It is unclear what staff scouting the game and putting the game together were paid and which ones weren’t. Many, who left the event at the start of the season, appear to be under NDA’s and won’t speak on the matter at all.

One of the companies helping to fund the Hula Bowl is NextFund, a startup support company that funds small businesses looking to broaden their scopes, owned by Nicholas Logan, whose LinkedIn is set to private. I am unclear on his relation to Jennifer Logan, but he is somehow related.

NextFund was sued in December for $5M in damages for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, fraud, and conspiracy. Included in the complaint are “misleading statements” about the business that they do, including with the Hula Bowl, per the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

The entities suing them were Cornerstone and SSM, no longer active businesses.

According to the complaint, Cornerstone and SSM would collect payments from their merchants clients customers directly and earn a fee that they agreed to share with NextFund. Logan, allegedly, did not return any of the money to NextFund from the business, instead using the money to load to friends and affiliates.

This rings true. With the 2024 Hula Bowl, there was a massive mistake in hotel reservations. Any one who used the Hula Bowl website to register a hotel room with the hosting hotel found that their reservation never made it to the hotel, and had to purchase again upon arrival. Those people never saw their money returned, despite promises of such payment.

Those people were NFL Scouts, players who attended, players families, attending media, etc.

In other words, ALLEGEDLY, the Hula Bowl was being used as a massive Ponzi scheme that collected anywhere between $2M to $4M in the height of its operations.

It left many people unpaid for their work in the involvement, and appears that the money ran out - resulting in the loss of the game on CBS Sports and perhaps the downfall of a premier event where football players could position themselves for professional opportunities.
