In June 1987, Marvel staged an extraordinary live-action event at Shea Stadium to celebrate the wedding of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. Taking place just before a New York Mets game, the ceremony was held at home plate and was officiated by legendary Marvel creator Stan Lee, bringing one of comics’ most famous romances into the real world.
The celebration featured actors in full costume, with Captain America serving as Spider-Man’s best man while the Green Goblin added a dose of villainous chaos. Mary Jane’s wedding dress was specially designed by renowned fashion designer Willi Smith. Timed to coincide with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21, the spectacle became one of the most iconic and ambitious promotional events in comic book history.
