@mnolangray Where was the planning for maintenance and its costs? Literally depleting NYC tax base while passing escalating costs for infrastructure to the future. His municipal descendants cut from the same short-sighted thinking that assumes that someone else will figure it out...
@mnolangray It doesnt help when our first NYC Parks Commissioner was a man so useless with money that he subsidized capital flight from the city he actually worked for to the suburbs and depended on his wife to manage the household budget. Seeing how bad he was with money was eye opening.
@nicolegelinas City gov has plenty of stories of awful contractors and agency employees who don't want to blow the whistle. The reform-minded are told to mind their business. And the folks with authority say it's to hard to change anything. https://t.co/CoAvi4wRdK
@PhilWongNYC Instead of reviewing social media posts, ask why Parks doesn't hire and baseline more forester jobs? More trees are planted every year, but the city is forced to outsource work to contractors who run an expensive oligolopy. This outsourcing attempt has failed. @DC37nyc@AFSCME
@StatisticUrban The mismanagement tolerated in many NYC agencies is astounding. From the lifeguard scandal at Parks to NYCHA, management at all levels struggles w/ basic management & supervision. You need to weed out bad apples. You can't just criticize cops for that.

Brooklyn councilman @OsseChi says cyclists need to show up and speak out at this week's upcoming meeting about a potential bike lane for Bedford Ave. "because the drivers are going to show up."
A large coalition of groups showed up in the park in Sunset Park, Brooklyn yesterday to play drums, speak out, & show solidarity w/ Plaza Tonatiuh. The Plaza has faced intense repression by NYPD & NYC Parks cops recently. Only a handful of NYPD cops were visible yesterday though.
Plaza Tonatiuh is in its third week now, and has been intimidated every week it has gathered.
It begins at 3pm today.
NYPD Legal & TARU (the unit that films people to track & sometimes issues warrants against) are already on site, 5 hours before Plaza Tonatiuh is set to begin.
Community groups have called for people to come join Plaza Tonatiuh, located at Sunset Park, today at 3pm.
It’s likely we will again see an extraordinary police and Parks presence and an effort to preemptively shut down what is, by all accounts, usually a pleasant, joyful space.
Per @Copwatch_CPU, Parks police and NYPD, including TARU, are already stationed in the dozens at Sunset Park.
A Plaza Tonatiuh assembly is scheduled for 3pm today.
BREAKING: The top uniformed NYPD cop abused his authority, according to the CCRB, an extremely rare finding of wrongdoing by such a high-ranking police official.

CDANY Statement RE Rumored Gutting of NY's Discovery Laws
We are appalled but not surprised to learn that certain DAs have waged a covert campaign to effectively gut the historic successful discovery reforms passed in '19.

*Half* the people on Nassau County Police Department’s 1,700-person “gang database” have no criminal history.
“Several officer notes cited someone attending a barbecue” as justification for being on the list.

A PhD candidate at U.C. Berkeley spent months studying the phenomenon of NYPD officers parking on sidewalks and found that outside almost every precinct in the city, the sidewalk is covered with illegally parked cars.

Cops were illegally parked on the sidewalks at 70 out of 77 NYPD precincts in NYC, according to a new study.
"For people who live near precincts, their most frequent interaction with the police will be observing them breaking the law" https://t.co/GgSP3hsQcp
@decolonize_this That's an excellent question. Hope someone does a FOIL bc that was like every single PEP officer for the shift in BK Boro. Meaning ignoring everything else in BK. Plus truck and driver for blocking entry. Curious management decision.
Sunset Park, let’s come together and find a way to support vendors, the park, and our whole community.
