It’s fine, we’ll still call them “Canadian” for the rest of their lives, take credit for their accomplishments, award them the Order of Canada, and refer to them as “Canadian businessman” in their CBC obituary when they die in the US fifty years from now.
Serious question. What do building codes look like within a moon context? Imagine the innovation possible if every new idea didn't take decades to go from IP to actual build.
This is probably going to accelerate a self sustaining city on Mars by a decade.
The deltav difference to get to Mars from the moon is ~1/5th that of going from Earth to Mars.
If we did not have heavy industry on the moon, it means we would have to lift every single ton of material from the insane gravity well of the Earth for a Mars city.
If we do have heavy industry on the moon, then we only have to lift organics, people and Earth specific equipment to Mars. The rest, (metals, silicates, water etc) can be sent for 1/5th the cost from the moon.
Essentially, building a Moon industrial base is a compounding factor to a Mars city. Absolutely not needed if you want to visit Mars - but the Moon is a "planet" sized resource depo, close to us in time, but far from us in the gravity well. We should invest into developing it into a heavy industry base.
The gravity well of the Earth is a fools errand to fight, but the moon is our "all your base are belong to us".
@aaronburnett The Moon would establish a foothold beyond Earth quickly, to protect life against risk of a natural or manmade disaster on Earth.
We would continue to launch directly from Earth to Mars while possible, rather than Moon to Mars, as fuel is relatively scarce on the Moon.
Canada needs to own our digital infrastructure. Or stay the digital branch plant of the world—paying rent and following someone else’s laws, The US isn’t messing around. They’re throwing TikTok out of the house. Meanwhile, Canada’s still renting the basement from Netflix.

Marc Andreessen on why we shouldn’t encourage people to be entrepreneurs
“The idea of being an entrepreneur has been a romanticized concept. There used to be TV shows talking about how fun it was. And people ask questions, ‘How do we encourage more people to be entrepreneurs?’ And my answer was always: no, we shouldn’t do that. People shouldn’t be encouraged to do something that painful. They should do it because they really want to do it. In fact, they should do it because they can’t not do it.”
Marc continues:
“It’s tremendously painful. Most of the experience of being in business as a startup is being told no. You need all these things: employees, financing, customers. Then you go around all day long asking people for those things and they tell you no. Half the time they don’t even respond. And then just when you think you get it working, a new competitor emerges and just starts punching you square in the face. The minute you think your product is working, there’s a problem in it, and you have to do a recall. It’s just this constant rolling horror story.”
