Being good enough to get promoted internally and being attractive to the external job market are two different things.

The other depends on what you can prove outside it.

I once got a 36% raise in my monthly pay because of one thing most people don't do.

I exported all the tasks and side quests I had worked on, analyzed it and found out that about 23% of my tasks were not on my OKRs and were even outside of what my JD stated.

Then I used that as part of the proof points to renegotiate my pay. I always go above and beyond anywhere I work and that can be rewarding.

I’ve realised I need regular moments where I’m not consuming, producing or responding to anything. Just being.
