“My giftedness exceeded my godliness” sounds like a humblebrag, not a statement of contrition…
I’m willing to be wrong. But coming from Lawson it’s hard not to read it that way…
@Askmsdel@TheoManBabies She may have been my sister’s second grade teacher. The tea thing sparks a vague memory. My 3rd grade teacher only lasted 1 year.
Mrs. Jordan was my 4th grade teacher and to this day is one of my favorite teachers. Every time i came back to LA and GCC, i sat with her.
@Askmsdel@TheoManBabies I didn’t i went for 3rd-6th grade then went to public school for junior high and high school. I folks got a lot of grief for that…
@TheoManBabies@Askmsdel Good ol Village. The “Bad” Christian school lol (as opposed to LAB). Of course those of us who went to Grace School thought we were better than both
@TheoManBabies I was an alcoholic for decades. Hated it. Prayed for deliverance. Tried to do better, be better. Never worked. If I could have prayed it away, I would in a heartbeat. But He never left me, nor turned His back on me, & now, I’ve been sober almost 7 years. His grace, not my work.
Rehab’s past wasn’t exactly squeaky clean, yet is an ancestor of Christ.
Hosea’s wife, as a proxy for Israel, was redeemable.
So scripture plainly shows a past life of sin can be redeemed.
We all have sinned. Often. Daily. He forgives us for it all.
Focus on that.
@TheoManBabies When I left GCC to go to college, I was stunned that there were other Christians out there. The most shocking part? They had never heard of JMac. So in my young mind they were “CINOs” but not true believers, because they didn’t follow JMac or Master’s. It was a rude awakening.
I’ve been in an interracial, international marriage for 20 years.
Is it hard? Sure. It’s marriage.
Two broken people trying to create a life together is always difficult.
But we have Jesus.
Our common faith has made it a wonderful experience. Perfect? Nah.
But a blessing.
@Askmsdel@Canutes4 Deconstructing then not really reconstructing, but rather taking the elements of the faith, reforming, was the best thing that ever happened to me. Leaned into being ok with not having all the answers, not being outwardly perfect. I met Jesus in a way JMac and Co never presented
“Women are more emotional. Men are more logical.”
Ummmm…
Have you seen guys at NASCAR?
SEC football?
Hockey?
Have you seen them obsess over Draft picks? NCAA brackets?
Whomever came up with that obviously never observed men and sports.
If you haven’t been reading @JayMallow3’s substack, you are missing hours and hours of quality reading. Deeply thought out, scripture is honored, God is lifted up. So good!
Hot take: the Reformed dudes could have listened to Tim Keller and grown up but instead chose to follow Doug Wilson and were left in spiritual adolescence forever.
@Noele7890 I reflect on the times when I felt like life was overwhelming in the past and remember that He showed up.
Remember how He showed up and through whom He showed up. And I realize that He has been there all along even when I can’t see or feel Him. and that gives me great peace.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
He’s got this.
All of it.
Already.
Forever.
Lean into and rest in that, Child of God.
