1/ The Palm Beach Post and Daily News newsrooms have lost more than 45 employees since we unionized in 2020. Many of those folks have not been replaced.
Not-so-friendly reminder that @Gannett proposed a pay scale that starts at $40K for new employees and goes up to $50K... after TEN years of service to the company.
This is why we're fighting for better. We have to.
“We value you. But a promotion isn’t in the cards right now.” 👏🏼 One of the many reasons I left @mcclatchy and then @Gannett and then journalism altogether https://t.co/zA8qe4EQHE
St. Pete restaurants the Birchwood, Canopy, and Teak on the @StPetePier now have a 20% service fee tacked onto bills instead of traditional tips.
The operators say with rising food costs & minimum wage increases, it’s a way to not have to raise menu prices @BN9
We won pay increases averaging 13% for every member of our unit over the life of the 2 yr contract, and achieved our day 1 goal of a $50k min salary for our newsroom. We won outsourcing protections, including for sports and producers, IRS mileage, and mandatory buyout offers.
My classmate Lee learned I was a journalism major earlier this semester, and almost every class since, he has brought me print copies of stories he thinks I will like.
Yesterday, I was able to bring him a print copy of a story I think he would like. ❤️
Exciting news @bradentonherald today. It's been a great ride reporting with @RCCallihan over the last five years - he's a truly stellar journalist who cares about the craft. Good things ahead!

People in western PBC are being wounded by stray bullets in their own yards, sometimes with devastating consequences, yet cops say they are powerless to do anything bc of permissive state laws.

This is my final call before giving up. Does anyone have FULL TIME journalism positions that will let me work from New Mexico? I am proficient in race/identity, education, public policy and health reporting. Job must meet ALL of this criteria. Please do not send me anything less

A bit of personal news:
I've accepted a staff position at The Palm Beach Post to cover sports.
It's a position I've been dreaming about for a long time, and now that it's in front of me, I'm excited to continue telling athletes' stories and covering our local sports programs.
Literally skipped class to apply to the @nytimes fellowship on a whim, thinking “there’s no way they’ll hire me.” Been here for a year and a half now. Just apply!
