A little bit of history... The creation of a women's group within G&A in 2022, at the start of phase 2 of G&A, is an initiative of the programme coordinator, Dr Tidiane Ouattara, and responds to at least two concerns of the AU. Firstly, the AU's Agenda 2063, which reaffirms the importance of involving young people and women in Africa's development. On the other hand, the very clear gap between women and men in the space professions identified during Phase 1 of the programme. The roadmap set for this group was to help raise awareness of space careers among women, contribute to a better gender balance and complement the programme's activities in this respect. Since then, the Women in GMES and Africa group has been present at most of the events organised by G&A. It actively promotes the role of women in space. It actively promotes the role of women in Earth observation and space industries through various activities. On 11 January, the first webinar of the year focused on technology and innovation for gender equality, with recordings available in English and French. On 7 March, the second series of webinars focused on African women's contributions to climate action. To celebrate International Women's Day on 10 March, Dr Fatma Trabelsi participated in an event at CERT in Tunisia. Last, on 3 July, the group organised its third webinar on "Women and innovation: the reality in Europe and Africa". Congrats to the organizers and keep going !
