Starbucks just opened a store a mile from where Uyghurs are detained for their religion. The signs aren't even in their language.

Starbucks opened two stores in Urumqi, Xinjiang's capital, this week. English and Chinese signage. Uyghur, the region's own official language, nowhere on the storefront.

The UN has warned of possible crimes against humanity there. Rights groups say over a million Uyghurs have been detained. China's response: call it "lies" and point to economic growth.

Starbucks' China CEO framed the expansion as building "sincere, lasting connections with our customers." The customers whose language didn't make it onto the sign.

This isn't ignorance. Starbucks just restructured its China business in April, selling 60% of it to a Chinese investment firm. It knows exactly what Xinjiang is. It decided the market was worth more than the optics.

So they just chose a coffee shop's profit margin over not laundering a region built on detention camps.

Écart entre l'annonce de Poutine et le terrain : plus de 1 380 km². Ce n'est pas une marge d'erreur. C'est un autre monde.

Le mot de l'ISW ? Des revendications « si éloignées de la réalité qu'elles ressemblent à des hallucinations ».

Alors posons la question qui dérange, et elle ne concerne pas Moscou.

Combien de fois avez-vous entendu « l'avancée russe est inexorable » sans qu'un seul chiffre soit cité ?

C'est exactement le but. Le Kremlin ne cherche pas à vous convaincre qu'il gagne. Il cherche à vous convaincre qu'il est inutile de résister.

Un seul remède : les chiffres, les sources, les dates.
