“Does more schooling make people more likely to vote?” is a big question in political behavior research.

Scholars have used creative natural experiments and gone back and forth on whether education matters or not.

This new paper shows that statistical power (or a lack thereof) has played a big role in these debates.

Many previous natural experiments have been underpowered. Scholars have relied on a lack of statistical significance (incorrectly) as evidence for no effect.

When you pool natural experimental estimates, the effects are consistent with education increasing voting.

Statistical power matters!
