Next step will be to understand why populations differ in their response to humans. Avoidance of approaching humans was unrelated to presence of human food subsidies (r=0.14), but may increase with how far they kept from humans (r=-0.53)

Across sites gulls differed in their distances from humans over which they tolerated being approached. While at some sites gulls tolerated humans approaching from a considerable distance, at others they always avoided approaching humans

@GullsEyeProject encourages volunteers to enter observations on an App. We have learnt #gulls behave more unsettled and come closer to humans when food is involved. Volunteers also approached gulls to within 4m and recorded whether they tolerated this
