.@EcoSoc3315 The rollbacks of the Clean Air and Clean Water Act's during the Trump administration were some of the most blatantly pro-corporate and anti-environment moves I could possibly imagine. Those policies are overwhelmingly popular, restoring them will be as well. (W11/T3)
On today's anniversary of the Clean Air Act, the task of protecting the air we breathe has never been more urgent or more vital.
Our administration will deliver on the goals of the Clean Air Act, while meeting this moment in history to address the climate crisis.
.@EcoSoc3315 This is so critical that major emission producing nations engage in this healthy competition towards cleaner energy technologies. Relying on purely market solutions may not be the most ideal, but it is the start that we need to avert disaster. (W11/T2)
President Xi Jinping of China and President-elect Joe Bidenβs converging climate interests could spur healthy competition over clean energy technology and, in turn, drive down prices of renewable power for the rest of the world. https://t.co/a1tFtyIBNA
.@EcoSoc3315 I have been seeing ads for this documentary the past several weeks and will definitely give it a watch soon. Really interesting and impactful that such a young climate activist is continuing to make waves in this way! (W11/T1)
@EcoSoc3315 From my readings for the book report, I have to ask- will this ever be enough? Sure, as my last tweets suggested, positive steps should be met with positive responses. But is this the fundamental change to our economy and consumption that we require? (W10, T3/3)
@EcoSoc3315 This is another part of what we are capable of with a new administration. Also, agree completely with the NYT here, climate can be made a focus of pandemic relief. W10, T2/2
A few things the Biden administration may do early on to address climate change:
- Rejoin the Paris Agreement
- Convene global leaders
- Reverse energy rollbacks
- Make climate part of pandemic relief
- Sign executive orders to cut emissions

@EcoSoc3315 Even though Biden has a very obviously imperfect record on the environment, it is these steps, rather than further ecological degradation that could make all the difference in a new presidency.
Does the idea of empowering women to prevent overpopulation give accidental credence to "lifeboat theories" in that it invokes the idea overpopulation is an issue? Why does empowering women have to be presented as a tool for the environment rather than a good in-it-of-itself?
Is there anyway for society to integrate technologies such as GMOs to ensure that food production remains high, but without increasing environmental degradation. Is it a matter of government regulations or new technologies in general? @EcoSoc3315 (W8/T2)
This is an example of the difficulties the climate movement will face in the coming years. A justice who clearly has not respect for scientific evidence will be confirmed and remain on the court for decades, perhaps long after public opinion has moved on the subject. (W8/T1)
.@EcoSoc3315 The intersection between women's rights and the prevention of environmental degradation highlights the need for environmental solutions to include human rights issues. Our lives our interconnected and with one, we can help the other. (W7/T3)
@EcoSoc3315 I was really happy someone brought up the one-child policy in our discussion of population re: environmental degradation. It is a perfect example of how limiting the population turns into limiting certain populations (T7/W2)
@EcoSoc3315 Before we even got into the weeds in the Hardin reading, I already had some background on why the population argument was so flawed. I felt this video did a really good job and I was lucky to have happen to viewed it a few years ago https://t.co/zl9sWLCcKQ (W7/T1)
.@EcoSoc3315 Yet another major lawsuit affecting shell- this time on its direct impact on Climate Change. Hopefully this won't take half a decade to fully get admission and action from Shell like the previous two in Nigeria (W6/T3)
An environmental group's lawsuit can go forward alleging that a Shell Oil Products U.S. oil terminal is vulnerable to climate change's effects. https://t.co/HFS6meIaNw
.@EcoSoc3315 As a frequent watched Presidential primary and general election debates, I can say with confidence that Climate Change continues to be an overlooked issue, one that is name checked and then promptly forgotten in the grand scheme of the debate. (W6/T2)
36 senators have signed a letter urging the Commission of Presidential Debates to give climate change more attention during every debate, writing, "The climate crisis isn't coming, it's here." https://t.co/xMZ10fsRmL
.@EcoSoc3315 This episode of vice was a really great introduction for me into concepts such as the resource curse and how multinational corporations can take advantage of developing nations (W6/T1).
@EcoSoc3315 I also think the messaging may be a bit off on this. We should definitely make the transition to electric cars but asking everyone to immediate already manufactured, working cars in favor of new ones might cause short term environmental harm. (W5/T3)
@EcoSoc3315 Very much enjoyed the readings on Monday, especially parts that reflect that economic arguments against renewables are slowly losing weight. As their costs run lower, it will literally take government subsidies of harmful energy sources to keep them afloat. (W5/T2)
@EcoSoc3315 This biggest shame was how this comment was used out of context. The goal was always to help coal miners transition into better jobs, not actually make them unemployed. The messaging was relayed wrong here and she paid an unfair electoral price. (W5/T1)
