Unsurprisingly, last night, I was reminded (yet again) that being a Young, Black and Educated woman is seen as somewhat of a crime or a revolutionary act.

For context… I posted this little video online two days ago sharing how excited I am to walk the stage and collect my doctorate degree.

According to these replies how dare I want to have multiple degree without having a husband?? How dare I think I can take up space at places like Oxford and Harvard? Or God forbid I earn a PhD degree?? What’s so wrong about me doing that?😭🙆🏾‍♀️

These reactions are still the very reason why I’m sooooo vocal about loving studying and education advocacy as a Black girl - because the world STILLLLLL struggles to accept our capabilities & brilliance.

Representation truly MATTERS, and I hope my graduation pictures and videos keep inspiring young girls, especially young Black girls, to own their abilities, passions, and intelligence. I hope there a THOUSAND more Dr’s waiting to walk the stage in the next few years !! I’ll certainly be cheering them on💛✨

Nandutu had, in journalism, risen to where many didn’t expect her to get to. She beat many odds; woman, single mother of more children than many people of our generation can afford to have, not Ivy League, good accent material (newsrooms esp TVs obsess about that). But she cut her niche and became very good at it. She became our president as the parliamentary reporters (UPPA) and she was the first one to take that position as seriously (and benefit from it) as @KwikirizaNova did the UOX presidency. She had gone back to school, was educating her children in decent schools, she was generally doing so well for herself. When the opportunity to become MP, and later Minister came, I am sure she saw that as the natural progression of her rising star. It has turned out a catastrophe for her. Even appealing to the mercy of the Judge, a fellow mother, pleading that she’s a single mother of 9 children didn’t save her. I would be happy that this government is finally punishing the corrupt, those that have deprived majority of Ugandans, those that have stolen from the sick, the starving and the impoverished. But sending Nandutu to prison when we have people who have stolen from not one, not two, not three government programs, not only at large but still occupying high positions shows it’s not corruption she’s paying for.

When you send away someone who does not bend, this is what you get! You hated her because she did not want you steppinh on city flowers and grass! Kampala has started looking great. She had rejected campaign posters in the city including the ones of the big people. They are back and the grass is all gone.

She stopped many illegal projects with big people behind them.

This lady was no nonsese, no wonder she was fought out.

We never fought for her, so we are paying the price.

Whenever you try to think about the ‘HAM PHENOMENON’, you just shake your head in disbelief about the depth of contempt of citizens! Free prime land, no bidding, no official record of agreements, does whatever he wants there, in the Capital City, affects hundreds of others, untouched, unbothered… life goes on!

The attitude is: ‘What shall they do?’
