Walking my dogs around our farm is my favourite thing. These hedges have been planted by my family over 3 Generations. A wildlife corridor for generations of wildlife to travel along, that makes me feel grounded and very happy ❤️
Habitats for frogs, toads & newts are in decline: 50% of ponds were lost during the 20th century – & of those that remain, 80% are in a poor state. So garden ponds are crucial for helping amphibians survive - & they help all sorts of other wildlife too!

Fourth year in a row @Kent_cc and not one person ever complained about this wildflower verge on my boundary that you destroyed again today. Do you have too much money?
So much for your Bee Plan.

Every year a neighbour on our street does this. He plants out a few sunflowers in the little patch of soil out the front of his house. When they come into flower he sticks little smiley faces on them! I just had to stop today and take a picture. 😂
Embrace biodiversity for your survival. Plant native wildflowers and meadow grasses for the insects that depend upon them for their lifecycle!
Here's how to get started:
‘Rhododendron’ comes from Greek ‘rhodo’ meaning rose & ‘dendron’, tree. In olden times this name was given to the plant we now call the Oleander (Nerium oleander), but Carl Linnaeus considered the name better suited to this other stunning plant genus. #history#gardening#flowers

Lovely winter job - pruning the soft fruit. I don't make enough of my plantation, pruning to ease access for harvesting. After 20 years its beginning to lack vigour but a new plantation is not a priority. #allotment#currants#goosegogs#jostaberries
Tomorrow, machinery and a strong person are coming to sort this terrible soil structure. I know… shouldn’t really be digging clay now but there’s a layer of solid compacted hardcore beneath the clay and I can’t wait till spring #newbuild#compaction

Unit 2 Topic 4 Element 1 Plants and Biodiversity. Food chains cross over, creating food webs. A garden pond increases the range of consumers e.g. frogs, mosquito larvae but it is the diversity of producers (plants) which promotes a biodiverse food web if selected well.
An example of how box blight can ruin a public ornamental display. Seen in London. The brown hedge should be evergreen Buxus sempervirens. Taxis baccata ‘Repandens’ is a good substitute. Unit 1 topic 2 and 4 plant selection and garden health
Unit 2 Topic 1 Element 2: Stem adaptations. Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) are stem tubers, an adaptation which allows them to perennate over winter in a dormant state with plenty of food reserve to grow quickly the following year.
