Fixing the Venezuelan oil industry will take time, money, and—most importantly—institutional change
Francisco Monaldi
Director of the Latin American Energy Program, Rice University’s Baker Institute
In the short term, Venezuela’s oil industry will have a limited impact on global markets. The country currently accounts for less than one percent of world oil production. Over the medium and long term, however, a sustained recovery in Venezuelan output could make a meaningful difference. From a purely technical standpoint, Venezuela could produce four to five times its current level of roughly one million barrels per day. Achieving that outcome, however, would require more than a decade of consistent effort and investments exceeding $100 billion dollars.
Geology is not Venezuela’s problem. The country possesses vast reserves, faces relatively low geological risks, and enjoys moderate extraction costs. Under an appropriate contractual and tax regime, oil production would be profitable even at prices as low as $25–30 per barrel. The real obstacles to investment are not found below ground but above it. They are political, regulatory, and institutional in nature.
Over the past quarter century of chavismo in power, the Venezuelan state has repeatedly reneged on its agreements with foreign investors. Resource nationalism has restricted the role that international oil companies can play, undermining confidence and discouraging long-term commitments. The national oil company, PDVSA, is now effectively bankrupt and lacks the operational and financial capacity to lead a recovery on its own. Any significant increase in production would therefore have to be driven largely by foreign firms.
For that to happen, several conditions must align. Venezuela would need stable and constructive relations with the United States and Europe, along with the permanent removal of oil sanctions. Investors would also need to perceive a minimum degree of political stability and, critically, a durable consensus among the country’s political leadership in favor of reopening the oil sector to foreign participation. Finally, a credible and competitive legal framework would need to be approved by a legitimate legislature and enforced by a legitimate executive.
Some argue that sanctions relief alone could unleash a rapid influx of investment. In reality, sanctions relief is necessary but far from sufficient. Without firm legal protections, policy continuity, and political legitimacy, large-scale investments with long development horizons will not materialize.
In the absence of genuine institutional change, Venezuela may still attract limited “low-hanging fruit” investments—projects with high short-term returns and fast cost recovery. While these could generate modest gains, they would do little to rebuild the industry or restore the country’s production capacity over the long run. Major projects requiring substantial capital and long maturities will remain out of reach.
The central problem facing Venezuela’s oil sector is therefore not technical or geological. It is political and institutional. These realities are often obscured by wishful thinking or by actors seeking quick profits. A meaningful recovery is possible, but only if it is grounded in durable political change, credible institutions, and a long-term commitment to restoring investor confidence.
The pharma-funded mainstream media has been touting a recent study of the Danish health registry—Andersson, et al.—which purports to show that aluminum-containing vaccines are not associated with neurological injuries including autism and Asperger's.
In the accompanying article, I inventory the long parade of statistical artifices that the industry-funded authors used to achieve their deceptive results.
Fierce criticism from the scientific community has now forced the authors to release their supplementary data, which shows calamitous evidence of harm.
These data are a devastating indictment of aluminum-containing vaccines directly contradicting the published study’s conclusions.
The data show a statistically significant 67% increased risk of Asperger’s syndrome per 1 mg increase in aluminum exposure among children born between 2007 and 2018.
Compared to the moderate exposure group, for every 10,000 children in the highest aluminum exposure cohort, there were: 9.7 more cases of neurodevelopmental disorder, 4.5 more cases of autistic disorder, and 8.7 more cases of the broader category of autism spectrum disorder.
By exposing these dangerous deceptions, @HHSGov is signaling a new era of gold standard science, obliterated taboos, and public honesty.

You might recall in chapter 7 of The Parasitic Mind wherein I referenced a theory that posits that human reasoning did not evolve to seek truth but to win arguments. Well, when you watched yesterday's reaction by @TheDemocrats, it is a perfect manifestation of that insight. They are not animated by some deontological ideals. Rather, if their opponents cure cancer, they will scream that it is unfair to kill off cancerous cells. The inability of human minds to see beyond their tribal allegiance is a fundamental flaw of the architecture of our reasoning faculty.

I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health. The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country. Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!
One of the most important skills I see in successful (and good) people is to constantly reevaluate assumptions. They make predictions based on various inputs, some of them unknown, and reevaluate based on what they got right and wrong. They trust people not because they're always right--no one is--but because if you're constantly seeking the truth it's easy to identify those who are doing the same.
If you were confident that Donald J. Trump was going to lose, maybe you should question what else you "know" about him. Maybe the people who misled you about his electoral chances have misled you about other things.
In the words of Cormac McCarthy, "If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"
This week, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was asked if he would step down if President Trump asked him to resign. Powell answered “No.” The law does not permit the president to fire the Fed chairman.
Powell didn’t mention, however, that The Federal Reserve is unconstitutional to begin with. No power was ever granted to the federal government to create a monopoly bank that manipulates interest rates and counterfeits money.
So the big issue is not who has more authority over the other; the president or the Fed chairman.
The issue is that the Federal Reserve should not exist at all!

Play The Long Game President Trump

It’s easy to gain weight, but difficult to lose weight.
It’s easy to rack up debt, but difficult to pay it off.
So it is with freedom. It’s easy to let freedom slip away, but very difficult to get it back.
As relieving as it is to see the election results and the overwhelming support for President Trump to change the direction of our nation, we must resist the temptation of believing that this will be easy.
It will not.
Once the celebrations subside, the reality of 100+ years of damage will be there waiting for us.
The resistance to change (even if it’s for the better) will be intense.
Human nature is such that we seek to maintain the status quo, even if the status quo is detrimental and destroying us.
Fortunately, this goes both ways.
If the status quo is to vigilantly guard your faith, family and freedom (as it was in the early years of America’s history) then tyranny has a very difficult time gaining a foothold.
But alas, the second 100 years of America’s history have been the opposite of the first.
Faith was kicked to the curb, the family was virtually destroyed, and Americans continually succumbed to the seductions of the state.
Today, we have the biggest government in the history of the world; and as a consequence, the "land of the free" has become a distant memory.
Addiction to government replaced the love of freedom.
Being a busybody replaced 'live and let live'.
The world's tapestry of nations and cultures was replaced by endless wars and a drive for global conformity.
Predictably, this has morally and economically bankrupted America.
Other nations no longer seek to replicate us. They don't want to be "woke"; nor do they want to be destroyed in the name of "freedom and democracy."
Fortunately for us, the vast majority of America doesn't want to be "woke" either!
But change for America will bring anger; on top of the anger that already exists.
So, play the long game President Trump.
Seek for the results of your actions to outlive all of us.
Plant good seeds today.
Rip out as many weeds as you can.
The Dept. of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E), with Elon Musk at the helm, is a brilliant idea!
Get us out of the business of miserably attempting to rule the world. We literally can’t be the world’s busybody any longer.
We must be a nation that cares for itself, with goodwill and good relations with the rest of the world.
A nation that cares for itself will instinctively re-learn and bring back the virtues of faith, family and freedom.
When that time arrives (someday in the distant future) Americans will look back at our time with a sense of fondness, in the same way that we look back with fondness on 1776.
Starship is now more than twice as powerful as the Saturn V Moon rocket and, in a year or so, it will be three times as powerful at 10,000 metric tons of thrust.
More importantly, it is designed to be fully reusable, burning ~80% liquid oxygen and ~20% liquid methane (very low cost propellant).
This enables cost per ton to orbital space to be ~10,000% lower than Saturn V.
Starship is the difference between being a multiplanet or single planet civilization.
Building a new world on Mars is now possible.
