i've been a distant admirer of @nicoypei over the years but we never talked. it wasn't until we found each other on x dm that we chatted properly about @SupernovaLabs_
there's a looot in this article and i would say you wont regret reading it because this is the type of shi that crypto / mega enables
dont let haters persuade you that there's no defi innovation anymore
Sui: A Comprehensive Network and Ecosystem Analysis
@SuiNetwork’s story isn’t about higher TPS or lower latency. It’s about their object-based design and Move-first security maturing into a real full stack
→ storage, privacy, compute, identity, native liquidity → then the ecosystem catching up: real apps, enterprise usage, and institutional buy-in.
This piece breaks down
• Recap on Sui’s architecture
• What shipped across the Sui stack in 2025
• Partnerships and ecosystem growth in 2025

Sui’s Architecture
The Sui tech stack has a unique object-centric model, safety-focused programming language, and dual-path consensus mechanism that were engineered to support high-throughput, low-latency dApps at a global scale.
A Brief Recap
• Object-centric data model: Treats on-chain tokens and smart contracts as distinct "objects” with its own identity, instead of everything living inside one global account state. The advantage of this is that owned-object transactions don’t compete for a single global ordering, so they can run in parallel and stay fast/low-latency
• Move programming language: Move is Sui’s smart contract language, built for “asset safety” and easier formal verification. Its “resource” model means assets can be transferred, but “can’t be copied or accidentally destroyed”, preventing bugs like duplication and double-spending
• Dual-Path Consensus: Sui splits consensus into a fast certificate path for owned-object transactions and Mysticeti’s DAG-based BFT ordering for shared-object transactions, so most activity finalizes instantly while only conflict-prone state pays the heavy consensus cost
• Tokenomics and Economic Model: $SUI is the network’s utility token that pays gas fees, secures the chain, and governance. A portion of fees also flows into a Storage Fund that pays future validators for long-term data storage and rebates users when they delete on-chain data

The Sui Stack: Development in 2025
Throughout 2025, some crucial infra were launched (some by @Mysten_Labs), each designed to address a core need for modern dApps and to work seamlessly within Sui's object-centric architecture:
• @WalrusProtocol (Programmable + Decentralised Storage): Allows devs to use Move smart contracts to govern how data is stored, accessed, and monetized. This enables new use cases such as games where the entire game state and media assets exist on the same programmable layer, or frontends stored and governed by the same smart contracts as the backend
• Seal (Private Access Control): Addressing the critical need for handling sensitive on-chain data, Seal functions as a decentralized Key Management Service, allowing encryption of data (decryptable only when specific on-chain conditions are met)
• Nautilus (Verifiable Offchain Compute): Nautilus uses TEEs to run complex or private computations off-chain, then lets Move contracts verify the results on-chain. This allows apps to safely use external data and sensitive logic without revealing it
• @DeepBookonSui (Native Liquidity Layer): Added permissionless pools and new fee mechanics, reinforcing it as Sui’s core DeFi liquidity layer and pushing cumulative volume past $16b+
• Mysticeti v2 Consensus Engine: made Sui faster where it experienced 35% lower latency in Asia, 25% in Europe

Partnerships and Institutional Adoption in 2025
2025 marked a series of high-profile partnerships for Sui with enterprise leaders and an inflow of institutional capital.
a) Enterprise Integrations
• @googlecloud (Agent Payments Protocol): Sui was named a launch partner for Google's new standard, positioning the network as foundational infrastructure for automated, programmable payments
• t'order (Korean Payments Platform): A top Korean table-ordering platform chose Sui to build a KRW stablecoin payment system
• @BitGo and LayerZero: Brought native wbTC to Sui via @LayerZero_Core, enabling direct, low-cost movement of the largest crypto asset onto the network
b) Institutional Finance
• @CanaryFunds filed the first-ever S-1 for a spot SUI ETF, and 21Shares followed with its own spot SUI ETF filing
• @Grayscale launched Sui ecosystem products with DeepBook Trust, Walrus Trust, and later the Grayscale Sui Trust (GSUI) giving institutions regulated exposure
• @21shares launched TXXS (a leveraged SUI ETF) on @Nasdaq, Grayscale moved to convert GSUI into a spot ETF, and SUI entered the @bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW) alongside majors

Thriving Ecosystem
This section provides an overview of Sui’s scale and diverse ecosystem as of late 2025, cementing the analysis with key performance indicators and a survey of prominent projects
a) Key Growth Metrics
As of posting, Sui achieved:
• Total DeFi TVL: $930Mn+
• Total dApps: 200+
• Total Stablecoin Market Cap: $6.01b
This growth was particularly pronounced in DeFi.
According to data, Sui's average daily DEX volume grew 232% YoY to reach $409m in 2025.
b) Sui Landscape Analysis
• Money market: Dominated by a few key players that together hold over a majority of TVL: @suilendprotocol, @navi_protocol, @Scallop_io. Others include @AlphaFiSUI, @OmniBTC and @bucket_protocol
• Perps: @bluefinapp@AftermathFi → Leaders in the space
• Other interesting DEXes (both AMMs and order-books): Highly competitive and includes @DeepBookonSui, @CetusProtocol, @Turbos_finance, @Magma_Finance and @ferra_protocol@MMTFinance
• Liquid staking: @springsui_ is the dominant liquid staking protocol, powering 61% of Sui's Liquid Staking Token TVL with a peak TVL of $378 million while @HaedalProtocol comes in at 2nd
• Other protocols: Includes more consumer focused (@phantom@overtake_world, @tradeportxyz and @bitwise) and Data which includes @WalrusProtocol that was covered above

Closing thoughts
2025 was the year Sui went from just a faster L1 with a barren ecosystem, to one that has more traction via increased enterprise adoption + institutional products, alongside sharp growth in on-chain usage and a suite of Sui-native projects that have gone on T1 exchanges.
My take: Sui feels like one of the few L1s that actually care about their ecosystem (Deepbook, Haedal, Ika, Overtrade are some of the tokens that have done well). However, it still hinges on whether sticky killer apps emerge that keep users around.
