Kenya’s President William Ruto has ordered Tata Chemicals to stop operations at Lake Magadi, accusing the company of failing to deliver enough value to the country despite decades of presence.

Ruto says Kenya wants local factories, jobs and value addition; not simply raw resources being processed and exported.

Tata, however, says it is compliant with regulations and has submitted all documents sought by the Kenyan government.
