Have you ever spent hours in the lab doing a western blot, only to end up with a black spot on your membrane that looks like a Rorschach test? If you have, you're not alone. Western blotting is one of the most common and frustrating techniques in molecular biology. It's supposed to be simple: transfer proteins from a gel to a membrane, and then use antibodies to find them. But sometimes, things go wrong. Very wrong.
