@SecretaryWright you are celebrating this like it’s some grand free-market correction, but that’s not what’s happening.

What ends on July 4 are specific tax credits for new wind and solar projects that haven’t started construction. Existing projects keep their credits, and projects already underway can still qualify. So right out of the gate, framing it as “ending subsidies” broadly is a lie. It’s narrowing one set of incentives, not eliminating government support for energy.

The bigger problem is the selective outrage. Fossil fuels have been subsidized for more than a century through tax breaks, below-market leasing, royalty relief, and direct support. This administration just pushed hundreds of millions into coal. So if you are “thrilled” about ending subsidies, you should explain why coal still gets taxpayer money. Otherwise it’s not about subsidies.

Wind and solar are now among the cheapest new power sources in much of the country. Cutting these credits doesn’t magically make electricity cheaper. It makes new renewable projects more expensive, which means utilities either pass higher costs to consumers or delay building new capacity. That tighten supply and raise prices.

And of course you are doing this when demand is climbing fast, especially with AI data centers, electrification, and population growth. Killing off cheaper generation while claiming you’re protecting consumers is backwards.

So the stupid part isn’t changing tax policy. Governments do that all the time. The stupid part is pretending this is ending “market distortion” while actively subsidizing fossil fuels and making some of the cheapest forms of new electricity harder to build. That’s not the free market. That’s ideology dressed up as economics. Oh and stupid.

Two Puerto Rican brothers, U.S. citizens from Connecticut were harassed while landscaping in a Middletown neighbourhood.

Jose Martin (owner of J. Martin Landscaping) and his brother were trimming trees and cleaning a customer's yard when a couple confronted them over noise.

The pair yelled insults, demanded to see work visas, accused them of being illegal, and said, "This is why we need a border wall right here."

Jose stayed calm, recorded the encounter on his phone, and called police. The brothers, Puerto Rico natives who have lived in Connecticut for decades, needed no visas as American citizens.

Robert Shaw, 62, and Sharon Bourgeois-Williams, 58, were charged with disorderly conduct. The mayor condemned the incident as unrepresentative of the community.
