I was 11 years old when this happened and I remember listening to my radio scanner that night, hearing them talk to ATC. (I was an avgeek back then also) They crashed in the backyard of my music teachers neighbor.
#OTD in 1990: Avianca Flight 52, a B-707, crashes in NY (US), 73 of 158 aboard die. Jet ran out of fuel following delays due to traffic and weather, which included a missed approach. Enquiry noted crew´s poor flight planning and communication issues with both ATC and pilots.
