UPDATE: Former Vice President, Dr Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe explains why stakeholders have agreed to change the name of Busoga University during a consultative meeting on the proposed public university in the Busoga sub-region held in Kampala on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Participants proposed three names: Busoga National University, Busoga Public University and Busoga International University. Busoga University was closed in 2017 over irregularities, including unqualified staff, unaccredited courses and awarding fake degrees to over 1,000 students. It was handed over to the Ministry of Education in 2018 for re-establishment as a public institution following a directive by President Museveni. In 2022, Education Minister Janet Museveni appointed a taskforce to oversee the process.
