Thank you to Governor McMaster for signing H.4431, the South Carolina Business License Tax Standardization Act, today in Effingham, SC. Reforming business license taxes was a top priority for The Homebuilders Association of South Carolina in 2020 and over the last decade.
It clarifies the process by which a business can appeal their tax. And it allows a municipality to contract with a third party to collect delinquent business license taxes on a contingency fee basis.
This new law creates a portal run by Revenue and Fiscal Affairs that allows businesses to fill out a single form and pay their business license taxes for every jurisdiction they work in with one bill due at the same time yearly.
