The Hampshire Individual Chess Championship for 1969 was a success for the young Seth Saverymuttu who finished ahead of Gerald Bennett and Marshall Thompson. An article based on the one from the Hampshire Bulletin including more than 20 games is available.

@dgriffinchess I tend to use Bluesky more than twitter (refuse to call by stupid name change), but have found myself using both less and less as these platforms seem to have had their time with their strange algorithms.
@SPTWchess@schoolschess@ecf_women@FideWomen And of course Maria along with her sister Angela are former Hampshire Chess players, who played in the 1975/76 Major Invitational.

@HansMokeNiemann Tennis players (ATP/WTA) do not lose their ranking for 52 weeks. Carlsen has played 14 games since April 2025 and in this context not inactive. This just looks like click bait, rather than anything constructive.
Spent the last week ticking off a bucket list item by playing abroad. 9 games in 6 days in the Menorca Open, with 5 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws. Played a couple of decent games and pleased with the experience.

I have been adding oldish Southampton Chess League results to the website, but have now picked up on the County Season, with the 1948/49 added. After winning the SCCU Hampshire the previous year, could Hampshire repeat this success?

After badgering Tony for several years he has sent me his Correspondence Chess games for the website, these include several which were published in BCM. Tony had great success in the time before computers became dominant in correspondence chess.

When I ran the HCA website I had a games page, where players sent me their games. I felt bad that these are no longer available, as the HCA website changed webmasters. I am starting to add some and the first game is a 2008 one by FM Moses Kawuma.

@eternalhopeoaks It's a tough one, but our old Hants County Match captain Peter Marshall, who was strong enough to play bd 1 in 1960, but still enjoyed chess when graded 72 and playing bd 13 for the U125 team in 2008 I think is a great example of someone who enjoyed chess no matter his strength.
Malcolm Clarke has long been associated with Hants and SCL chess. His career started in the 1970’s, when he played for Eastleigh, but he also played in London for several years. Recently he has been captaining and secretary of Chandler’s Ford chess club.

Hampshire only played the two county matches in the 1946/47 season, and also lost Bournemouth chess club from the association, due to non payment of fees. Details on the HCA season on the website.

The West of England Chess Championship has been running since 1946. I have been sent 5 bulletins for some of the 1960's congresses, which have been scanned and added to the website.

The 1992 Hampshire Individual Chess Championship was won by Southampton Chess Club’s Stephen Bell. Very little information is available, although I will update if additional details are supplied.

Picking up on Hampshire chess clubs again with details added on the Portsmouth chess club, which was formed in 1889 and members include Sir George Thomas, GM Peter Wells.
They have currently won the PDCL Div 1 title 18 times, which is the record.

Picking up on the HCA County season following the 2nd World War (and other Hampshire chess activities). The current post looks at the 1945/46 season where Hampshire played two county matches.

@onetotwo Yes, to be fair I have probably had a couple when my behaviour could be improved. I like to think these were a long time ago, but unfortunately not! Still think after the first incident it would not have been repeated.
