Children in conflict with the law need to be treated first and foremost as children. Scotland’s low age of criminal responsibility and the continuing detention of children in prisons paints a bleak picture of our commitment to children’s rights. https://t.co/sML3gmxg5r
@Bruce_Adamson We have lost two young men in our family too - aged 28 and 33. The hole they left doesn’t get smaller but life around it grows bigger I suppose over the years.

A low age of criminal responsibility does not keep us safer, nor does it provide an effective remedy for those affected by the behaviour of children. @cypcs https://t.co/TV4jTVBW69 https://t.co/z24VQxE69K
30 years ago today the UK ratified the UNCRC. Almost a year after it passed unanimously in @ScotParl the UNCRC is still not law in Scotland.
Rights for under 18s must become be law ASAP so that they can get the legal protection that they need. 1/3
PLEASE SHARE: We are consulting on a new proposal for developing a quality indicators framework to support the of implementation of trauma-informed practice across Scotland. Read the consultation document and complete the survey here: https://t.co/o2Eaha7DTM
We worked with children affected by domestic abuse a number of years ago. They had no say in whether or not they saw their father, the family courts decided. The father’s right seemed to override the children’s right to have a voice in decisions that affected them.
@JuneOSullivan@MadeForMums@PrimaBabyMag @FamilyLives In Shankhill during the troubles in NI I heard of a project where every pregnant woman had a volunteer older mum befriender from 6 months pregnancy till child went to nursery. Could baby sit, iron, chat, run errands, play with the child, listen, be there. Home Start for everyone.
I’m sure I do not have to remind you of the research that says investing early is the best way we can nurture society but in policy, that mostly means investing in those children aged 3+ https://t.co/xRnl7fztbG

The fact that the Prime Minister may resign over a Christmas party + quiz, rather than his policies that hit the most vulnerable in society, says everything you need to know about British politics.
It's so important to us that families have opportunities to tell their stories, be heard and influence positive change. We were really pleased to be a part of the NDAS review. You can read the summary NDAS review reports here: https://t.co/lTaIVDQAUF
Due to COVID-19 guidance this will be a virtual meeting via Zoom. There’ll be a presentation by Anna McBride, Volunteer Coordinator, on developing digital support for families and a chance to meet the new team. Please email [email protected] if you'd like to join us.
We attended our Welcome event last week which got us even more excited about our next steps in our volunteering journey. Delighted to be working with @Impact_Funding
My awesome friends and family have helped raise £75 for @mfrcashforkids by donating in place of presents for me, that's a whole bag for one child and half of another! I'm £25 away from having the value for 2 children to have something to wake up to on Christmas day ❤️
Of this painful trail to read - this is surely the nub - “we don’t listen to children’s stress, to feelings. We focus on behaviour.” Listening, holding those feelings, showing we care these are the fundamentals. But professionals need support to be able to carry that burden.
15. One way to describe a 'trauma-informed approach' is that it brings t KINDNESS OF LISTENING TO PAIN into our ordinary practice. You begin to realise how poor our society is at this basic complex kindness. We don't listen to childrn's stress, to feelings. We focus on behaviour.
Thanks to the wonderful @RevRichardColes for doing our justice disrupted podcast. Cannot thank him enough - for his time, his compassion and his service.
They would be blown away by dial up internet! I remember teenage angst in our home between those who wanted to be on the phone for hours and those who wanted to be on the internet.
