Healthy Food Systems Australia @hfsaus.bsky.social
@HFSAus
An advocacy group dedicated to promoting a healthy and sustainable food system for all people and the planet, through holistic and systemic policy action
HFSA published a paper! We looked at coverage of UPFs in Australian news media. The good news? UPFs are receiving more and more attention! But there's a need for more accuracy in discussing UPFs (esp. not conflating them with 'processed' foods or HFSS foods)

Hot off the press!🔥Our new @NatureFoodJnl paper asks how have governments regulated ultra-processed foods worldwide?
We find a strong skew towards voluntary & information-based (i.e. weak) measures. There is huge potential to expand scope & strength of regulation 👇🧵

A pleasure to speak last week with incredible colleagues on ultra-processed foods and what governments can do about this serious public health challenge. Drawing from our team's work, my talk focused on defining the problem, as largely a corporate and profit-driven one, and outlined a whole of food systems ecological approach to regulating ultra-processed systems. Just reading again this paper by @prof_christine & @rainehaines of @MelbLawSchool and reflecting on (also again) how paradigm shifting the ideas are - ideas that we in public health can hugely benefit from, as we think about how to regulate harmful industries 👇 https://t.co/84gUyqrKtg

Three key advocacy takeaways from my @HFSAus internship: 1) Build networks! Collectivisation is the key to achieving change 🤝 2) Have a personal mission statement and value-set to guide decision-making 💚 3) Try and fight FOR something more than you fight against something 💪
A warm welcome to @bethaniechong, our inaugral HFSA intern! Beth is passionate about improving the food system and is spending the final few weeks of her Doctor of Medicine/Master of Public Health degree helping out with our advocacy work. Great to have you onboard, Beth!🙌
Excited to share my latest research on #regenerativeagriculture, exploring the involvement of multi-national corporations in the regen ag movement. Are these companies turning over a new leaf, or is it just greenwashing?
