Speaking on the week of the United States’ 250th birthday, Elder @RonaldARasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles asked, “If religion is not there to help with shaping character and mediating hard times, who will be?”

Elder Rasband was the keynote speaker in the 2026 Patriotic Service of America’s Freedom Festival in Provo, Utah, on Sunday, June 28.

The Apostle celebrates liberty, love and religious freedom in the U.S.

The First Presidency has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Elder Hutch U. Fale, of the United States West Area Presidency, will preside at the event. 

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is constructing temples all over the world. Their purpose is to bless the covenant children of God with temple worship,” President Dallin H. Oaks taught in a recent general conference.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in more than 14,600 congregations around the United States discussed the importance of the Constitution and other foundational documents during Sunday services on May 31, 2025.

In a video shown on Sunday, President  D. Todd Christofferson (@ChristoffDTodd) of the First Presidency, accompanied by Elder Quentin L. Cook (@CookQuentinL) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said, “We believe that the most important aspect of the Constitution is its role in promoting and protecting the individual moral agency of God’s children everywhere.”

Members of one small congregation (branch) of the Church in Tampa, Florida, shared what’s happening in their home countries, the freedoms that have been taken away, and how grateful they are for the religious liberties that now allow them to worship as they wish.

Dade City Branch President Steven Hatch said, “Whatever is going on in the world or whatever politics are happening, the Savior unites us. It’s up to us members of the Church and all American citizens to continue fighting for religious freedom for all.”

As we act in accordance with the truths of the Savior’s gospel and trust in His promises, we are blessed with the spiritual capacity to “rise up” and press forward through the challenges of mortality while experiencing the joys His gospel makes possible in our lives.

To those who doubt: Justin and Kenna Valdez moved away from family so they could more easily walk away from their faith. But their eight-year-old son still wanted to be baptized.

Sensing a door opening, a wise stake president scheduled us for a ministering visit to their home. Kenna eventually confided that she still had faith in the Savior, and even a testimony of the Book of Mormon, but faced a few triggering issues that held her back.

We promised them that as they anchored on the things they believed, the Lord would help with the things they didn’t. Overcoming their concerns was not an issue of resolving every faith question but of helping them recognize the Holy Ghost.

As President Dallin H. Oaks recently taught, “You live in a season where the adversary has become so effective at disguising truth that if you don’t have the Holy Ghost, you will be deceived.”

Justin and Kenna began to make the changes necessary to come back to church. Six months after our visit, Kenna texted me: “Hi Elder Gilbert! We are ready to be sealed as a family.”

Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling all of us home.

At a women’s conference at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square on Saturday, May 30, 2026, some 2,000 Latter-day Saint women gathered to discuss their influence in homes, the Church, the workplace and the community.

“Jesus noticed women. Jesus trusted women. Jesus welcomed women among his followers,” Sister Tracy Y. Browning of the Primary General Presidency said in her keynote address. “These women were not just standing on the margins of the Savior’s ministry. They chose to walk with him.”

In recognition of the 250-year anniversary of the founding of the United States of America as a free and independent nation, Elder Quentin L. Cook and I discussed the importance of religious liberty and its underlying significance for the restored Church of Jesus Christ.

We believe in religious liberty.

As the Eleventh Article of Faith reminds us, “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”

Music speaks to the soul in a language that transcends words—illuminating the heart, lifting the mind, and gently reminding us of heaven’s light.

I was pleased to learn during my current ministry visit to Europe that the BYU Singers are also traveling through the region, sharing their gifts as they prepare for the Musica Sacra International Festival in Marktoberdorf, Germany.

What made the experience even more meaningful was learning that these devoted young people were scheduled to perform in the very chapel in Salzburg that I was dedicating the same weekend. It was as though their music helped prepare not only the building, but also our hearts.

As I listened to these talented voices testify of Jesus Christ, I felt a deep and abiding gratitude—for music as a divine gift, and for its ability to carry a joyful witness that He lives.

Music has a remarkable power to allow us to love, share, and invite. It reaches across cultures and languages, drawing us closer to one another and, more importantly, to the Savior.

The purpose of making covenants is to draw us closer to our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. We are beloved sons and daughters of God, and He desires that we experience joy in this life. Our covenants can serve as constant reminders of these sacred truths.

The Savior has commanded each of us to love God and to love our neighbor. We are grateful for the faithful efforts of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who strive to fulfill this divine commandment. Their service is a witness of discipleship. 

My counselors in the First Presidency and I recently visited the Church’s new humanitarian center in Salt Lake City. This facility will serve an important role in preparing and distributing emergency supplies to meet global needs. 

I express appreciation for members of the Church and for all who minister in quiet and consistent ways. I testify of Jesus Christ, whose light and Spirit guide the children of God in caring for the poor and the distressed throughout the world.  

May we each accept and act upon this sacred responsibility to bless the lives of all of our Father’s children.
