Our pupils have started to experience and enjoy the richness of Japanese culture through the Japanese club led by Mr Puertas. We applied for a grant to buy some books and equipment to teach Japanese at our School.

Nursery have been enjoying engaging in some Sensory Circuits to alert, organise and calm their minds so that they are ready to learn!

Some of the examples were: What do you do all day at the palace? How many crowns do you have? Do you have any pets? What time do you go to bed? The Year 1’s were very excited when King Charles said he was giving children a day off of school to celebrate his coronation in May!

Nursery have been enjoying learning about King Charles III's coronation this week.👑 They have been making flags and patterns with union jack cones, exploring the colours of red white and blue and making herbal tea from their garden.

Then they used different shaped cutters to make patterns and shapes. They are looking forward to painting them next week to make them even prettier.

Reception have been learning to use different materials and techniques in Art and Craft club. They explored using air drying clay to create different patterns and models. First they molded the clay to make them soft before using a roller to flatten it.

The children did a brilliant job is following the poses whilst trying to keep their balance and control. We ended the session with some calm, cool down breathing exercises.

As part of our MindUp learning, Reception were joined by two fantastic Year 6 MindUp Ambassadors for our first Yoga session this term in our school outdoor yoga hut. They learned that yoga helps us regulate our emotions and helps us have a healthy mind and body.

They learned a variety of different yoga poses such as:
-the butterfly pose
-the seated forward fold
-the tree pose
-the cobra pose
-the child's pose
-the warrior pose

It was great opportunity for the children to see first-hand what the habitat for frogs actually looks like. The children talked to one another about their observations and remembered the 4 stages of the frog lifecycle.

Our caterpillars have arrived in Reception and we are enjoying watching them squiggle and wiggle in their home as we look through the magnifying glass!

As part of our learning about pond habitat and the lifecycle of a frog, the children enjoyed visiting the Heathland School pond this week. We have learned that frogs are best suited to living in places where there is water, such as near a pond for laying their eggs in.

Last half term Year 1‘s big question was ‘What does it mean to be Royal?’ They have learned about the past and identified some facts about Kings and Queens and special events before living memory.

In English the children learned to form questions and was very surprised when they had an unexpected royal visit from king Charles III himself. On his visit we rolled out the red carpet and he came into school and the children had an opportunity to ask him some questions.
