Today I attended the Bournemouth and Poole Holocaust Memorial Day event at @LighthousePoole.
Thanks to Lynda Ford-Horne (pictured) and the Bournemouth and Poole Holocaust Committee she chairs for marking Holocaust Memorial Day 80 years after Auschwitz-Birkenau’s liberation.
Join us tomorrow @LighthousePoole ahead of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz 2-4.30pm - (Tickets are free with a suggested donation of £5) 🕯️ #HMD2025
At 8pm on 27 January, join us to Light the Darkness for #HMD2025.
On Monday, people will light candles and place them safely in their windows to remember those who were murdered for who they were, and stand against prejudice and hatred today.
🕯️ #LightTheDarkness for #HolocaustMemorialDay.
Standing in Auschwitz-Birkenau as a Muslim woman, I feel that it is my duty to speak out about the Holocaust, and the blind support that is happening to this day for hateful and genocidal regimes around the world.
Here on the wall, I look for the names of my friends’ grandparents. They were among the millions of innocents murdered for simply being Jewish.
And in this same moment, we are witnessing virulent calls for Jew hatred. Blind and foolish support for Hamas - a terror regime who on October 7th, 2023, violently massacred 1400 innocents in Israel, violently raped countless women and men, and took people of all ages including infants and toddlers as hostages.
The calls for Jew hatred and for blind support of the terror regime Hamas, did not start in the Arab world. It began on the streets and on campuses in New York, London, and throughout the Western world.
Hatred has no limits. The Holocaust was a result of the hatred for Jews. I believe that Holocaust education is critical for peace in the Middle East.

An honour to take part in BCP Holocaust Memorial event this afternoon at the Lighthouse Poole. Incredible stories shared, I led prayers around lighting of candles. If there was a minute’s silence for each person that was killed in the holocaust, we would have 11 years of silence
"Holocaust Memorial Day offers a valuable opportunity for the richly diverse communities of this nation to come together and recommit to building a society free from antisemitism, persecution and hatred."
🕯️The King has sent a message to all those marking Holocaust Memorial Day tomorrow.
