@MumHnh@abdulaaall

A very interesting Persian manuscript: "Afshin and Babak arriving at Samarra". Safavid period, 16th century AD. From the "Tarikhnama of Muhammad Bal'ami", the 10th century Samanid vizier.
Both Afshin (Sogdian) and Babak (Persian) were notorious anti-Abbasid rebels.

@BiruniKhorasan All these factors combined to make the region easy prey for the Mongols, especially since the region had been fragmented and weakened long before the Mongol invasion.
@BiruniKhorasan Exactly, and the same applies to the Abbasids and Ayyubids in the west. It wasn't just a matter of disunity and fragmentation; the Abbasids, particularly the last four caliphs, were remarkably ineffective in repelling the Mongol invasions.
@BiruniKhorasan Baghdad. Sources mention the proliferation of bandit gangs in Baghdad during the five years preceding the Mongol invasion, who raided the homes of princes. There were also floods that inundated Baghdad and destroyed part of its wall.
@BiruniKhorasan However, the ministers feared his strong personality and instead gave the caliphate to a weak figure who would be easier to control. Administrative corruption was eating away at the Abbasid state from within, and state authority collapsed even in the capital,
