Couldn’t believe my luck this morning, three otters (mum and two pups) in Thurso! 🦦🦦🦦 Stayed with them until the hail came, such beautiful animals!

Over the moon as I just saw my first OTTERS at Sneekermeer! 🥹📷 - Took me a while to realise the squeaks coming from the reeds were no funny Coot noise. In hindsight, I've heard them at this place before, but simply never realised it. Won't happen again. 📷😅

After moving to the 'Sneekermeer' in 2022, I got to live my first full annual cycle in this part of Friesland in 2023. Across two local patches I managed to see a combined total of 155 bird species, and came up with a personal assessment of local rarities/specialties. 1/3

Nice field trip today around Natura 2000 areas in central Fryslân. Though we were not looking for them, we recorded 6 birds of prey 🦅 Saw two white-tailed eagles, a peregrine falcon, some marsh harriers, a hen harrier, buzzard and a common kestrel. @provfryslan @staatsbosbeheer
