This week students used the Gov of Canada poppy stories App to read real-life stories about brave heroes who served and sacrificed to protect Canada and Canadian values. We also learned about Remembrance Day symbols.
Ss @hspaulLRSD explored Yayoi Kusama inspired dots and pumpkins. We learned how Yayoi Kusama used art to improve her mental health. She ultimately created Belonging for herself and became one of the world’s most influential artists.
In HSPLLC Ss use https://t.co/CsuOaVV0fS to scan poppies and learn the stories of real Canadian veterans. Gr 5/6 Student quote: “This activity is so cool. It’s important to learn about different people & history”.
With the addition of hoof prints on the ground to remind us to walk the path of Bizhiki (the bison) our interactive Indigenous Education community art piece is complete. Our names signed above & our footsteps below (also a great movement break!) make our hallway our commitment.

Our October #IndigenousEducation theme is ‘Listening to the Land’. We made mikinaak (turtle) 🐢puzzles & noticed his scutes show giizis (moons) 🌙. We danced like our animal siblings & saw what we can learn from each. All to teach wahkohtowin; the truth that we’re all connected.
Sukkot commemorates the journey of Jewish people in the depths of the desert. The weeklong festival is observed by building and spending time in a sukkah. Along with eating meals in the sukkah, people lift and shake the lulav with an etrog.
Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) is the holiest day of the Jewish Calendar centering on personal reflection and repentance. It's a day for fasting and the religious community spend most of this day in solemn prayer at the synagogue (temple) taking responsibility for their mistakes.
We spend a lot of time online. Sometimes it's easy to forget we're talking to a person on the other side of the screen. And it's easy for us to say something mean when we can't see the person we're talking to.
