Please join us tonight, rain or shine, for a mass mobilization to make clear:
We want ICE out of New York City.
We won’t stop showing up until they stop abducting our neighbors.
I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today (w/ @NYSenatorRivera), where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital.
4. Transparent Communication: Ensure timely and transparent communication to build trust and convey actionable information. Even well-designed, goal-driven surveillance systems can fail if they are not able to communicate actionable information to all those who need to know.
2. Comprehensive Monitoring: Understand transmission pathways, including asymptomatic spread among animals.
3. Geographical Tracking: Adapt wastewater surveillance to directly measure H5N1 and differentiate H5N1 activity in humans and animals. https://t.co/nkmk13MQDQ
Without these, we remain vulnerable to a very real pandemic threat. Here’s what we need:
1. Rapid Identification: Detect human infections, viral evolution, and person-to-person spread early. Crucial before flu season!
🦠🔬In our latest piece for @thehill, we emphasize the importance of creating clearly stated goals for public health surveillance in response to the H5N1 outbreak. https://t.co/A0g7HhhXBx
While discussing @LiuNewYork & I’s bill to repeal property tax exemptions of $100m+ for private universities w/ @BrianLehrer, a caller said the bill is class warfare.
The status quo, where rich universities get massive tax breaks while CUNY crumbles, is the real class warfare.
We are tired of subsidizing what you refuse to give us…I want you to demand more for the City & the State...give us what we deserve & not tell us the reasons why we should continue to eat crumbs off the floor. -- @JenGaboury@Hunter_College
Contract for #APeoplesCUNY
The #CUNY Board of Trustees canceled a hearing they're required to hold yesterday, running instead a chaotic zoom mtg. People who planned to attend to hear testimony had no access to this public mtg. If you offered testimony, you had no way of listening to others. 1/2
Public health needs to speak out against regulatory capture, hold corporations accountable for disasters they create including East Palestine, and get preventive systems in place @cunyisph@CUNYSPH@PublicHealth
🚨 A recent report claims @CUNY is not spending federal stimulus & does not need full #NYCbudget funding. We'll always call out management when it's deserved! But this is a cynical 11th hour ploy. Here’s why: [ A #CareNotCuts THREAD] https://t.co/Vs6dwhqqsT
.@CUNY is $100M+ in the hole & down 300 community college faculty & staff since COVID. Advisors say campuses are so short staffed they're pulling in random staff to help. Fed funds are already allocated. Shame on this 11th hour excuse to defund public higher ed. #CareNotCuts
👋 @PSC_CUNY👋
Let’s keep this issue front & center:
@CDCgov has issued its *first ever* standard for indoor air quality, recommending buildings have 5 air changes / hour.
The non-neg. demand for HEALTHY air should be included in our contract demands!

“The federal law doesn’t exist,” said @jessicaramos , the state senator, in an interview. “What we’re doing is taking action at the state level, because unfortunately, climate change has produced extreme temperatures in both directions.”

@buzhna@PeoplesCDC Clearly @emmaogreen is NOT a trained science reporter (stated by someone who is). Her @newyorker piece on the @PeoplesCDC misses the fact that public health=evidence-based activism. It's critique of the US COVID response aligns with global recs @JVLazarus: https://t.co/CayjeyjT51
