@Rjrjrjjs This is an interesting point, that could be misleading. Someone could be deeply pained by an action or decision, but if it brings that greatest amount of pleasure for the greater amount of people it is the right choice. That is the basis of utilitarianism. #ewp22

@alikrebss I think it is okay to manipulate consumers emotions to get something from them in certain scenarios. But it seems as if mass media is always trying to manipulate our emotions, to get something from us on a daily basis which is immoral. #ewp22

@Rjrjrjjs @StuparichKayla I think a utilitarian would base it off the hedonic calculus. If you using drugs is affecting more people in a negative way then a utilitarian would definitely say it is the wrong thing to do. You just have to base it off the hedonic calculus. #ewp22

@vanessakrakerr I would say you still gain pleasure from family reunions. You are gaining some pleasure because you feel good in the long run that you spent time with your family even if it was draining.#ewp22

@PopkoDaniella That action could be costly; and it is showcasing the idea that, "one life matters more than the other". Some very older folks make significant contributions to society, while that younger person could grow up to be a serial killer. #ewp22

I like the idea of utilitarianism because it has the idea that our lives and pleasures count for, "one and only one". That is how it should be, nobody should have the idea in society that they matter more that is just unethical and results in terrible things happening.#ewp22

I like the point the professor brought up. Lying is sometimes useful and white lies are okay sometimes, but you should never lie to your significant other/ the people you care about most. Trust is needed and lying to them breaks that bond and can ruin that relationship. #ewp22

@rachelsans25 I think that goes way back to that idea of Nietzsche, that the common man can't think of the right thing to do on their own. So, they just follow the social norm and the pack and don't question if it's right or wrong. #ewp22

@vanessakrakerr I wouldn't say we are content in any sense with these issues. The problem is we are all moralists and will not do anything drastic or violent to overthrow the government and bring about change. The government promotes moralists not "last men". #ewp22
