I think my biggest gripes with JRPGs is when they give you a lot of status effect spells but no way to tell whether an enemy is going to actually be affected by it. Why waste a turn with a status spell to test on enemies I won't see again when I can just do more damage instead?

@armormodechang the best ones are games where confusion makes you have a chance to drop money or items, and you cast it on the enemies so they empty their pockets for you.
