Jonathan T. M. Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), commended Cambodia’s housing policies and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting affordable housing for low-income and vulnerable families.

During a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on Thursday (Nov. 5), CEO Reckford thanked the Royal Government for supporting HFHI’s work in Cambodia since 2003 and pledged continued cooperation.

Samdech Thipadei thanked the organisation for its 23 years of contributions, highlighting the government’s priorities of affordable housing, improved living conditions and land ownership under the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I.

The Cambodian premier said the government aims to complete land-title distribution by 2027 and highlighted programmes providing land and housing to landless families, as well as plans to build around 5,000 temporary shelters for people displaced by past Cambodia-Thailand border conflicts.

He encouraged HFHI to continue working with relevant ministries to support the government’s housing initiatives.

We are wrapping up an exciting week in Nanchidwa, Mulanje, where 11 volunteers from the United States joined community members and local artisans for our second All-Women’s Build of the year.

Together, they worked to construct two houses for families affected by Cyclone Freddy.

The team also visited an area affected by the cyclone, the school where displaced families sought refuge, and the site where more than 70 houses have already been constructed for other survivors.
