"Helping build this home showed me that volunteering isn’t just about giving time; it’s about creating hope and shaping futures. Everyone should experience this at least once—it might change your life too." - American volunteer Nickolas on his #GlobalVillage trip to #Vietnam
🏠 For 40 years, @HFHMalawi has transformed lives by building more than houses—building hope, resilience, and opportunity. 💙
On 10 July, we launch our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, a bold roadmap toward a Malawi where everyone has a safe and decent place to call home.
Join us as we shape the next chapter of impact. 🌍

Leaders gathered in Da Nang for the Vietnam Housing Conference, exploring solutions for safe, affordable, climate-resilient homes. Marking 25 years of #HabitatVietnam, the event stressed urgent, collaborative action for vulnerable communities. 🏡
People living in informal settlements understand their needs best and should be included in decision making that affect their communities.
#HomeEquals is working to ensure community input is reflected in housing policy and solutions. 📣

After a week of intensive @HomeEquals community advocacy in Masasa, Geisha, and Nkhorongo, @HFHMalawi has entered a new phase of action in Lusangadzi. Volunteers, partners, and community members gathered to clear land for four houses, marking the first physical step toward safe and dignified homes for four beneficiary families.
The initiative marks a clear shift from advocacy and planning to visible construction. More than 42 volunteers from the Lusangadzi project took part in practical building activities, including:
⛏️ Breaking ground
🧱 Mixing mortar
🧱 Laying bricks
🌾 Clearing land and providing support
Right now, 1.1 billion people living in slums and informal settlements are not treated as equals. Let’s change the equation. Together, we can ensure everyone has a decent place to live. 🏘️

"How warm and welcoming they are."
After spending five days helping build a home for the Saravia family, #GlobalVillage volunteer Brenda reflected on the incredible spirit of community she experienced in Kenya.
Together, we're building homes and stronger communities.
Under the @HomeEquals project, @HFHMalawi, in partnership with Mzuzu City Council and @mzunionline, conducted a familiarization tour focused on assessing:
✅ Baseline insights on housing structures, drainage, and sanitation gaps
✅ First-hand observation of settlement patterns & environmental challenges
✅ Direct integration of community perspectives into technical design
Through #HomeEquals, Habitat Malawi continues to promote community-led advocacy alongside professional land use planning, supporting the upgrading and integration of informal settlements into Mzuzu’s urban development agenda.

As everything has a beginning and an end, we bid farewell to the team of Global Village volunteers from the United States, led by Gina Brown and Virginia Hodge, who dedicated their precious time to volunteering in Malawi.
Together with community members and new homeowners, they worked tirelessly to construct two homes over seven days—mixing mortar, carrying bricks, and laying foundations while embracing the spirit of Mulanje. Their time in Malawi was filled with laughter, unity, determination, and encouragement.
Today, we bid farewell to Todd Rogers’ team of Global Village Volunteers from the United States who came to support our two partner families in building houses at Namchidwa Camp in Mulanje. @HFHMalawi is constructing a model village for 96 families affected by Cyclone Freddy who are living at the camp.
With the assistance of Todd Rogers’ team, Habitat Malawi has now supported 54 households with decent housing, leaving 42 households still to be supported with decent housing.
When Cyclone Freddy struck Malawi in 2023, it left a trail of destruction. Chrissy was one of many who lost everything.
Thanks to the support of the Gale family and other donors @HFHMalawi built 54 homes in response!
