It's hard to describe the buzz of our Saturday event @UkNatArchives. From our exhibition and videos on refugee journeys to networking over afternoon tea to our incredible panel discussion moderated by @BabitaTV, it was both moving and joyous. A huge thanks to all who attended.
Today's the day of our event at the National Archives in Kew, London where we will be commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Ugandan Asian expulsion with a panel discussion, our exhibition, and afternoon tea. We're looking forward to seeing all attendees later. #BUA50
On this day 50 years ago... the deadline for most Ugandan Asians to leave Uganda - for many, the country of their birth. We remember some of the stories and memories of that period in November 1972 as the Ugandan Asian expulsion reached its most critical moment.
Very much looking forward to speaking at this event about the expulsion of South Asians from Uganda, 26 November. Please do join us, seating is limited but tickets are free. Simply email [email protected] to reserve a spot.
Job alert! There is still time to apply for this great postdoc, on ‘Remaking Britain: South Asian Connections and Networks, 1830s to the Present’: https://t.co/BBqsko9iNs

An absolute pleasure to be invited by His Majesty The King to Buckingham Palace. The event commemorated 50 years of the UK arrival of South Asian expellees from Uganda. ‘Refugees have enriched our country’, Lord Sentamu. As relevant then, as today.
Today is a special day as some of our committee will be attending a reception and ceremony at Buckingham Palace hosted by His Majesty The King, commemorating the resettlement of Ugandan Asians to Britain in 1972. The ceremony will be presented by Jon Snow and Jonathan Dimbleby.

Don't miss artist Harshinder Sirah's exhibition @TheMountWithout until 3 Nov, marking 50 years since the Ugandan Asian expulsion. She says her art reflects her journey from a child fleeing Uganda to the artist she is now. https://t.co/7WlptY6qbA
Rishi Sunak is our new PM. Many are commenting on his age, ethnicity & faith - UK’s youngest PM since the 1800s, the 1st of South Asian heritage and a Hindu. But did you know that his parents were born in https://t.co/kahrI1HhEo? His father in Kenya, his mother in Tanzania.
50 years ago, flights carrying Ugandan Asian refugees - including my family - began to arrive in the UK. Idi Amin had given them 90 days to leave. Last month, I followed my mum and aunt as they returned to 🇺🇬 together, for the first time.
