Hello Lola, I am a Muslim, and our spiritual tradition has a very deep approach to raising children. I want to share some tips from our scholars that will be beneficial to you regardless of your faith.
First of all, our theology teaches the concept of Fitrah. This means that every child is born with a pure heart. At six years old, she is not a criminal mastermind. She does not have a wicked soul.
If she doesn’t have all these, then what is happening? The truth is that she is just lacking impulse control and testing boundaries. By this, if you look at her as a manipulator, you will fight her. However, if you look at her as a pure soul making mistakes, you will be able to guide her.
Secondly, for every problem anyone faces today, it has been solved in history. The only problem is how to locate them.
A classical scholar named Al-Ghazali wrote about child psychology over 900 years ago in his famous book “Ihya Ulum al-Din.” In his section on disciplining children, he gave a practical rule I want you to adopt going forward.
He advised that parents should never push a child into a corner where they are forced to lie. When you ask a question you already know the answer to, her survival instinct kicks in. She cries and she lies to defend herself because she is scared of you. Stop interrogating her. Just look at her and state the fact. Say, I know you took this, and we are going to return it right now.
Again, another scholar and sociologist Ibn Khaldun addressed this exact behavior in his masterpiece titled: “Al-Muqaddimah.” He warned that when a child is raised with harsh punishment, they learn deceit, trickery, and lying to protect themselves. This is why she is covering her tracks and crying to manipulate you. The fear of a harsh reaction is making her a better liar.
Lola, do not attach a label to her. Do not ever call her a thief. If you attack her identity instead of her action, she will internalize it and grow into that dark label. Tell her the action is wrong but protect her dignity.
Make her return the item. Do not fall for the tears. Hold her hand, walk her back to wherever she took it from, and make her hand it back and apologize. The discomfort of returning a stolen item teaches a much better lesson than beating her will ever do.
Finally, I don’t know if you are a Muslim, but never underestimate the power of your own words. In our faith, we believe the prayer of a parent for a child goes straight to God without any barrier. Pray over her. Pray for her heart to be content and for her character to be straight.
Keep doing this consistently and the habit will break.
Allah knows best.
@ritaUdominic I like him too, he sure speaks like the former president Tafawa balewa, and for someone who hasn’t attended university😀 let’s all for once appreciate teachers instead of voting for street and pity pretenders
We sincerely thank our passengers for their patience, understanding, and cooperation.
We are pleased to confirm that all passengers and crew safely disembarked with no injuries reported.
Safety remains our highest priority, and we will continue to provide updates through our official communication channels.
So if Alex Onyia didn’t decide to take these kids to Rome, you mean the world would not have seen us win gold?
Some other country would have won and we would have thought they were the brightest on earth?
Bad Governance is hiding the greatness of Nigerians.
I’ve said on previous tweets that Nigerians are the brightest and smartness people on earth. No enabling environment to showcase that brilliance.
The way Cape Verde played, you will hardly believe that this was their first time at the World Cup. Debutants drew 0–0 with Spain.
They went further & drew 2–2 with Uruguay.
The Blue Sharks finished second in Group H & qualified for the knockout. They leveled in the match TWICE. Messi’s goal was not enough.
They were forced to extra time. Argentina barely avoided one of the greatest football upsets of all time. They may have survived, but Cape Verdeans will go home with their heads held high. Congratulations to the debutants.
This is what the beautiful game is all about. 🫶
🚨 David Beckham on Cape Verde’s elimination after pushing Argentina to extra time in the FIFA World Cup:
🗣️ “This is the cruelest side of football. Cape Verde have been eliminated, but they leave this tournament with something far more important than just a scoreline—they leave with the respect of the entire football world. They took the defending world champions all the way into extra time and made Argentina fight for every single minute. Nobody expected that before kick-off.
When I think about this performance, I think about Vozinha first. His saves kept Cape Verde alive when many teams would have collapsed. Then you have Deroy Duarte and Sydney Lopes, two players who will forever be remembered in their country’s football history. They scored against Argentina, they believed when so many people doubted them, and they gave millions of Cape Verdeans a night they will never forget.
People will only remember that Argentina qualified, but those who truly understand football will remember how close Cape Verde came to creating one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history. They never hid, they never stopped running, and they never accepted that they were supposed to lose. Every challenge, every tackle, every attack showed a team playing with pride, courage, and absolute belief.
This is not a story of failure. This is a story of a nation announcing itself to the football world. Cape Verde arrived at this World Cup as outsiders, but they leave having proven they belong on the biggest stage. They stretched the world champions to their absolute limit, forced them into extra time, and made them earn every second of their qualification.
Football can be incredibly unfair. Sometimes the team that captures the hearts of everyone watching is not the team that advances. But no whistle can erase what Cape Verde have achieved. Vozinha, Deroy Duarte, Sydney Lopes, and every player wearing that shirt have inspired a generation. Argentina continue their journey, but Cape Verde leave this World Cup as heroes.”
Hi women, can you post pictures or talk about your academic achievements? I need some motivation this month.
If you see this tweet, share it so women can see it.
Here is what happened yesterday in Oyo State. Earlier in the morning, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, sent a delegation to the parents of the kidnapped children to console them and calm them down officially from the government house.
When they arrived at the community where the parents were, after delivering the governor’s message, they began unloading bags of rice from the vehicle along with cash. They said Seyi Makinde instructed them to give these items to the parents and asked them to be patient until their children are recovered.
What will shock you I swear by Allah these people refused to accept it. They returned everything exactly as it was brought. Not even one person among them took anything. Even the rice they had unloaded, they loaded back onto the vehicle themselves just as it came.
The community leader of the parents said our demands was: “Just bring back our children. We don’t need anything from the government beyond that.” Case closed.
I swear by Allah, if this had happened in Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, or Sokoto, I guarantee 100% that our people would have accepted these items. There is no Hakimi (traditional ruler), Bulama, or Mai Unguwa who would suppress his own greed and tell the government to take back their items.
As for the parents themselves, you would find some who are so greedy that they would even thank the government before collecting it, because they are shameless, heartless people with no dignity 😒.
If you hear this and think it couldn’t possibly happen among Northern (Arewa) people, then wallahi, you are a hypocrite 😒👌.
i took a 45-minute uber ride home from the airport last night after a brutal, three-day business trip.
i was completely emotionally and physically drained, and my social battery was at absolute zero.
when i got into the car, the driver.. an older guy named kabir.. didn't say the usual "how was your flight?" or turn on the radio.
instead, he just handed me a small, laminated piece of paper attached to the back of his headrest.
it was a literal "ride menu."
it said:
1. *the silent ride* (total quiet, no pressure to talk).
2. *the therapist ride* (if you need to vent about your day, i am listening).
3. *the tourist ride* (i will tell you cool facts about the city).
4. *the radio ride* (we just listen to old jazz and coast).
i smiled, pointed to number 1, and whispered, "silent ride, please. thank you."
he gave me a warm nod in the rearview mirror, adjusted the AC, and drove the entire 45 minutes in absolute, beautiful silence.
it was the most peaceful, therapeutic boundary i’ve experienced all year. i felt my entire nervous system finally reset.
when he dropped me off, i gave him a massive tip and told him, "that menu is a genius business idea. you must get amazing reviews."
He looked back at me and said, "i didn't make the menu to get better tips, dear.
my daughter has severe social anxiety, and she told me that the hardest part of her day is navigating small talk with strangers when her brain is tired.
she told me it feels like running a marathon.
i made the card so that anyone who gets into my car can feel completely safe dropping the mask for a little while."
i walked into my apartment and just sat on my suitcase.
we live in a world that is constantly screaming at us to perform, to network, to be "on," and to over-communicate.
but sometimes, the deepest form of love and respect you can show another human being is just creating a small, safe pocket of silence for them to rest in.
pay attention to the people who give you permission to be quiet. they are rare.
