PhD student Sarah Gornall is investigating whether small changes in a combination of several genes can lead to the development of #MND#ALS. 🧬
Learning more about genetics in MND could lead to new potential therapies.

After seven years of incredible research into MND, Dr Greig Joilin is starting a new path as a lecturer. It has been an absolute pleasure to have him in my team & witness his exceptional talents & dedication to make a difference. Thank you Greig and all the very best for future!
She interestingly found that mutant dynein with normal human TDP-43 showed no mislocalisation of the protein, but did show aggregation of TDP-43 in the spinal motor neurons, along with p62 upregulation. These findings provide new insights between dynein and TDP-43.
Proud to share our latest @tandfonline paper “Aberrant Dynein Function Promotes TDP-43 Aggregation and Upregulation of p62 in Male Mice Harboring Transgenic Human TDP-43.” Investigates axonal transport in #ALS. Read it at https://t.co/IQ12MNSufa
In work done by @EleniVChristof as part of her PhD, she investigated whether mice with mutations in both TDP-43 and dynein would cause TDP-43 cytoplasmic mislocalisation and protein aggregation, which although is a key ALS pathology, is not observed in most TDP-43 mouse models.
A great pleasure to supervise our fantastic Sussex Neuroscience PhD student Eleni Christoforidou @EleniVChristof and to celebrate her graduation with her. Many congratualtions Eleni @SussexNeuro@SussexLifeSci
Great opportunity to join our Neuroscience faculty (Research and Education Lectureship) at the University of Sussex: Deadline extended to August 15. https://t.co/WStSTjqreP
Last night at the #ENCALS2023 poster session, the team caught up with a number of @mndassoc funded researchers!
Amazing to see so many of our #MND#ALS researchers presenting their work and making new connections! 👩🔬👨🔬
Here are just a few we caught on camera 📷
We've been catching up with @DrGreigJoilin & @hellychayts at ENCALS about their projects that were supported by the Foundation 🔬
Thank you both for your continued work in MND research and helping us to make our vision a reality.
And so our time at #ENCALS2023 comes to an end. A great few days of networking, sharing our work, learning about the exciting work being done everywhere else, and enjoying the sunshine and hospitality in Barcelona!
So please come along, see what we found and have a chat with us - we'll try to be there while trying to catch a look at all the other exciting posters at #ENCALS2023!
We are at #ENCALS2023 and ready to share some of the work that we have been doing over the last couple of years with three posters over the next two evenings!
And lastly, we have @DrGreigJoilin who is presenting his @MNDoddie5 and @mndresearch funded work looking to find prognostic and progression non-coding RNA biomarkers using a longitudinal results and has some promising results.
