@LynnLeone6 Thank you for sharing this! There are so many positive aspects of technology for kids, but the negative aspects seem to get the most attention, understandably.
@JavonMykei Yes! This is important in social work because we will have to change the way we interact with our clients of this age to suit their needs and intelligence level.
Ch.8 highlights the developmental milestones in middle childhood, which are important to social workers because it changes the way we have to interact with our clients of this age. They are developing into critical thinkers quickly which changes the impact of trauma. #UMBCSOWK388
Chapter 6 in our text highlights the importance of developmental stages in infancy, which is important for Social Workers to be aware of when dealing with a case that involves children in infancy. If an infants development seems delayed, we can investigate why. #UMBCSOWK388 week9
@TinaGar75513597 Agreed! This is great information to keep in mind when we are working with people with small children and how they can better communicate feelings/emotions with them!
@TialRoselyne I found it so interesting too! I was surprised at how similar language development is in different cultures. I also thought the portion about the family that is deaf was super cool too!
I linked a great article that expands on "parentese" and how it can positively impact a child's language development. The article highlights the cultural similarities and differences, similar to the episode we watched in class!

@bkeller1101 Totally! I think there are so many ways using the information from this chapter to establish a plan in order to keep your environment this way such as keeping up with your cultural competence and understand how complex individuals circumstances are.

Understanding how a clients environment and social factors impact them is crucial to analyzing a case. This chapter emphasizes the importance of cohesive facets of an individual and how those can be used to better understand the clients needs!
@MAKNCHEESE03 Hey Makayla! We see here in the U.S how our society being individualistic has allowed for the fostering of many isolating social norms. I think that with more social engagement currently being accessible there is more room for conditioning based off of social ideals!
The development of our behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, and actions have direct links to stimulus and conditions in our environment. The article expands on how this idea can be translated into schools and be used to develop strong social skills and self efficacy!
#UMBCSOWK388 We touched on our interactions with our environment and how behaviors are developed. NPR released an article today highlighting the social-emotional theory, which builds off of our topics for this week!

@srose5atumbcedu I agree with criticisms of the DSM-5, but I do see the value in the material. I think as long as it is continuously updated and you consult other resources in addition to it, then it can be of great use to the psych or SW field!
#UMBCSOWK388 This week's readings mentioned the different Psychodynamic Theories and had a great section critiquing Freud's theory. I do acknowledge Freud's contributions but, I have done research in the past critiquing it and found this article that breaks it down in a good way!
#UMBCSOWK388 I read this article about a week ago focused on the mental health of children and I thought it tied in well to this weeks reading, specifically the Psychological aspect of the Biopsychosocial Approach. https://t.co/zT1Lsdnr7M
