CW sexual violence
(THREAD) In light of instances of sexual violence becoming public, @McMasterU has put forward McMaster Security Services as a “resource.” What do students have to say about special constables’ approach to safety for survivors? 1/
been sick & suspicious of the increasingly mainstreamed language of "privilege" for longer than i can remember. finally wrote about why.

Some of you might remember that Minneapolis Public Schools recently cancelled its SRO contract with MPD. There appears to be an effort to replace them with nearly identical “Public Safety Support Specialists” who would bridge school to law enforcement. This, too, is policing.
"When security looks at our poster, and target us, I feel as though they are scanning to see if we are "threats". Police on campus never protect Muslim students...I have never felt safe or protected as a Muslim woman on campus. Who are they there to serve and protect? " 3/3
"I have consistently had officers show up to our booth and ask us about the purpose of our club (Muslim club...When asked why they are targeting our club at club fest, they say they are simply walking around... however they proceed to leave the premise completely" 1/3
"A few of us ran into a student who was having a mental health crisis...Campus constables then called Hamilton Police...We ended up hearing later on that this student was physically assaulted by the police." - anonymous submission

We are currently at the encampment on York and Bay in #HamOnt. Notice was given that city workers and police will begin removing what they deem to be garbage, large furniture, and "stolen goods" from the site.
Note that these people are houseless. These items are all they have:
#HamOnt !!! While we firmly believe everyone deserves a safe place to live & a roof over their heads, this isn't the reality in our city right now & we respect people's autonomy. So - PLEASE DONATE TO OUR TENT DRIVE! $$ or new/gently used tents welcome! email [email protected]
Thanks to the individual who shared this with us, and to everyone else who's sent in submissions so far. As a reminder, we're collecting negative experiences with campus security/special constables at McMaster: https://t.co/csuAkPzO79
Meanwhile, De Caire's presence at McMaster continues to endanger students. How can you claim to be tackling anti-Black racism when your head of security and the friends he brings support racial profiling?
Just a gentle reminder that the average life expectancy for people experiencing homelessness in Canada is still 34-47 years old.
