Ahead of this wildfire season
it is always important to remember that
Quebec is the only jurisdiction in North America that doesn't spray its forests with glyphosate for "forest management" ..... It lets its fires burn
Now.... check out the 2025 fire map:
587 days.
That's how long the Canadian healthcare system took to call me back about the spinal surgery I needed immediately or risk losing the use of my legs.
In 2024, I broke my back in Singapore. The neurosurgeon there said surgery was urgent. After 3 weeks fighting my insurance from a hospital bed, I flew home with medical support.
The Canadian hospital quoted an 8-month wait.
I'm lucky I could afford to go private. The next day, I had the operation.
Today, 587 DAYS LATER, the public hospital called to say they're ready for me.
People say Canadian healthcare is free and great. It's neither.
It's horrible!
> Be Huawei competing to attract global talent
> Decide to build a European style tech city as office campus
> Spend $1.5 billion to build 12 distinct zones inspired by different european cities
> 300 acres with castles, canals, medieval streets, plazas and university like buildings
> Has its own tram system modeled after swiss mountain rail for employees to commute
> All modern amenities like gym, hotels, cafes, art spaces and even lakes with landscaped parks
> 25,000 top tech talent working on AI & chip design
Huawei's Oxhorn campus is not a cheap tourist attraction but a city of 25,000 engineers working on cutting edge tech, a testament to china's commitment to R&D.
so let me see if i got this AI stuff straight:
- you pay to experiment with the models
- you pay to automate your business workflows
- you pay to validate the outputs of said workflows
- you pay to detect any silent downgrades in the model
- you pay to update your workflows
- you pay to revalidate your workflow outputs
- you pay to do it all again every time there's a major model update
- you pay 10x all that when they finally stop subsidizing the models and you have to pay the real price
- also you don't even get any business advantage out of it because literally anybody can pay for the exact same AI you can
i'm no business genius but this sounds like a terrible business model for everybody except the AI companies.
