In a new collaborative study led by Shannon Barry from @dalyengellab, we reveal that bull sharks are altering their life history to cope with warming water in the North West Atlantic.

The Ecological Fallout Of Losing White Sharks In South Africa
When top predators vanish, everything shifts. False Bay’s white shark disappearance has set off a chain reaction affecting prey, competitors, and habitats.

Just hit a professional milestone: my #research has now been cited over 10,000+ times. Grateful to colleagues, students & mentors who’ve made it possible. Honored to contribute to #science—especially when evidence-based info matters more than ever
Following the loss of white sharks from False Bay, both seals and sevengill sharks have increased in relative abundance, coinciding with declines in small fish that seals feed on and smaller sharks that sevengills prey upon.

Did you know not all sharks need to swim to breathe?
• Many species, like the lemon shark (Negaprion brevirostirs) depicted here with @drneilhammer can rest on the bottom & buccal pump! A process where they open & close their mouth creating a vacuum pump of water over the gills
@briloonME Led by David Evers, this study provides a foundation for establishing a biomonitoring framework needed to track Hg concentrations in species globally. Access the paper here: https://t.co/5kTiLhq7ru
In this new synthesis paper, we describe currently available biotic mercury (Hg) data on a global scale to improve the understanding of global efforts to reduce the impact of Hg pollution on people and the environment.
