Something worth keeping an eye on tonight in Canada v South Africa, corners.

Canada have been a joke so far this tournament:

• 9 corners v Bosnia
• 19 corners v Qatar
• 7 corners v Switzerland

They go in tonight as odds on favourites against South Africa, and I reckon they dominate on the corner count.

In the 1st half, Canada have been averaging 5.63 corners, and 5.88 in the 2nd half, both of which beat South Africa's average of 4.22 for the entire game. To reiterate that, Canada's average in a half beats what South Africa average across a full 90 minutes.

Now I know this stat is inflated by the Qatar game, but even then, seven and nine corners is huge. It's clearly a part of their play.

Unsurprisingly, they've averaged the most shots from set pieces so far at the World Cup, with 7.30 per game. When I looked deeper, 38% of their shots have come from set pieces, and I know this doesn't just mean corners, but it will factor into how many they get.

Even looking at their friendlies prior to the World Cup, their corner count: 12, 7, 9, 8, 3, 4, 2, 8.

My slight doubts are around it being a knockout game that may get cagey, plus the fact they are now playing in the USA instead of Canada, so may not have as much of a home advantage, but it's not enough to put me off the angle, it's just worth considering.

Personally, I'm getting on:

• Canada Most Corners in Each Half @ 2.20 (Paddy Power)

But you could even trial a corners ladder for Canada if you fancied it. Best of luck.
